Reports to: EHS Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Location: Jacksonville, FL (Manufacturing Facility)

Job Summary

The Senior Safety Technician will facilitate the development of a strong environmental health and safety culture within our manufacturing facility and implement programs, policies, and assessments to ensure Stellar Energy and its employees meet all legal and regulatory requirements and actively support occupational health and safety guidelines. The Senior Safety Tech is a key leader and a critical component involved in creating a safety and environmentally conscious culture at Stellar Energy.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead by example and promote a “zero incidents are possible” and “do what’s right mindset.”
  • Assist with developing and executing environmental health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines.
  • Assist line and staff management with understanding OSHA regulations and standards, specifically OSHA 29 CFR 1910 General Industry Standards, including guidance and coaching on compliance, inspections, and implementation of best management practices.
  • Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to applicable regulations.
  • Purchase environmental health and safety supplies, equipment, and specialty services.
  • Monitor manufacturing operations to identify, mitigate and eliminate workplace hazards.
  • Maintain OSHA injury and illness recordkeeping and reporting requirements.
  • Manage stormwater permits, hazardous waste handling, transportation, and disposal.
  • Develop and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety to minimize safety risks.
  • Develop and conduct training and presentations on environmental health and safety matters and accident prevention programs.
  • Investigate accidents or near misses to identify root causes, prepare necessary reports, and implement corrective action solutions.
  • Review SPA’s, JSA’s, and coach, foster and recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities and preventative measures.
  • Report on health and safety awareness issues and statistics.
  • Lead the weekly safety meetings and Stellar Energy, to include Safety Committee.
  • Update various safety programs (i.e., Avetta, ISNetworld, Veriforce) as needed to maintain compliance with customer guidelines.
  • Schedule and maintain routine environmental health and safety inspections.
  • Prepares for ISO 9001 and other audits.

Work Environment

This position may be based at either of our two manufacturing facilities which are industrial environments. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, loud noise, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions.

Physical Demands

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., however this is subject to change due to business needs. Occasional work shifts may be assigned for Saturday or Sunday.

Travel

No travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

  • Understanding of legal health and safety guidelines.
  • 5 years plus experience where environmental health and safety were primary job responsibilities.
  • Valid qualifications in occupational health and safety or environmental.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety management or related field.
  • Certificate in Environmental or Safety Management (ASP, CHST, CSP, CEM, CHMM, REM).

Work Authorization

Must be authorized to work in the USA.
