Senior Software Engineer, Developer Experience

Job DescriptionJob Description

Crusoe is on a mission to accelerate the abundance of energy and intelligence. As the only vertically integrated AI infrastructure company built from the ground up, we own and operate each layer of the stack — from electrons to tokens — to power the world's most ambitious AI workloads. When you join Crusoe, you join a team that is building the future, faster.

We're in the midst of the greatest industrial revolution of our time. The demand for AI compute is boundless, and power is a bottleneck. We're solving that — with an energy-first approach that makes AI infrastructure better for the world and faster for the people innovating with AI.

We're looking for problem-solving, opportunity-finding teammates with a sense of urgency, who believe in the scale of our ambition and thrive on a path not fully paved — people who want to grow their careers alongside a team of experts across energy, manufacturing, data center construction, and cloud services.

If you want to do the most meaningful work of your career, help our customers and partners advance their AI strategies, and be part of a high-performing team that believes in each other, come build with us at Crusoe.

About This Role:

The Developer Experience team is a newly formed, high-impact group charged with fueling the future of Crusoe’s engineering muscle. We set the tone for how software is built, ensuring that as Crusoe scales its AI-first cloud, our code delivery capacity and developer systems accelerate in tandem. This role holds a broad, mission-critical charter: to empower every Crusoe engineer to deliver positive change to customers quickly, safely, and efficiently. As an early member of the DevEx team, you will unlock the potential of our coding ecosystem, tackling everything from deep-kernel optimizations to establishing the first principles of unit testing and global rollouts.

You will play a key role in shaping our technical direction, communicating a strategic vision, and fostering a company-wide culture of engineering excellence. By partnering with stakeholders across the organization, you will define the future state of Crusoe’s evolving software development efforts and eliminate the friction that stands between an engineer and their "flow state." This is a full-time position for a visionary builder who wants to influence the long-term technical objectives of a company aligning the future of computing with the future of the climate.

What You’ll Be Working On:

  • Engineering Standardization: Partner with the broader organization to define and build standard practices for how services are operated and observed throughout their entire lifecycle.

  • Toolchain Architecture: Establish an opinionated, flexible, and cost-effective toolchain that enables the delivery of customer value at massive scale.

  • Toil Elimination: Ruthlessly identify and automate away the friction and repetitive tasks that slow down the development process, keeping Crusoe engineers in a state of high productivity.

  • Library & Environment Creation: Develop the libraries, tools, and pre-production environments necessary for vetting service APIs and complex microservice interactions.

  • Ecosystem Integration: Unify internal tooling and vendor services to automate workflows, build operational efficiency, and optimize security across the development stack.

  • Lifecycle Innovation: Innovate across every stage of the development lifecycle, including source code management, build systems, CI/CD pipelines, platform runtimes, and telemetry.

  • Culture of Quality: Lead efforts to establish a culture of continuous quality delivery that scales seamlessly as our engineering headcount and infrastructure grow.

  • System Optimization: Work diligently to build efficient systems and processes that serve as a force multiplier for the impact of every engineer around you.

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • Technical Decision-Making: Expert ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs and understand how infrastructure decisions impact the daily productivity of the end-user (the developer).

  • Modern Tooling Proficiency: Fluent knowledge of industry-standard build tooling, containerization, and open-source development frameworks.

  • Advanced Build Systems: Hands-on experience working with modern build systems such as Bazel, Buck, or comparable high-performance tools.

  • Cloud- Expertise: Professional experience managing or developing within Kubernetes clusters and a deep understanding of container orchestration.

  • DevOps & Reliability Background: Proven experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Release Engineering, or a similar productivity-focused discipline.

  • Testing Infrastructure Knowledge: Deep understanding of automated testing infrastructure and how to integrate it into a seamless CI/CD pipeline.

  • & Version Control Mastery: Expertise in modern programming (specifically Golang) and advanced proficiency in Git-based workflows (GitLab/GitHub).

  • Mandatory Education: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related analytical field (or equivalent professional experience).

Bonus Points:

  • Linux Internals: Hands-on experience with Linux image construction, package building, and kernel-level optimizations.

  • Workflow Empathy: A demonstrated passion for building empathetic developer and operator workflows that prioritize human productivity.

  • Community Engagement: Active involvement in the open-source community or a track record of staying current with recent industry advancements in developer productivity.

  • Automation Mindset: A background in solving complex, multi-layered technical problems and then successfully automating the resulting solutions.

  • Strategic Vision: Experience informing long-term company objectives through technical insight and developer-centric advocacy.

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation

  • Restricted Stock Units

  • Paid time off & paid holidays

  • Comprehensive health, dental & vision insurance

  • Employer contributions to HSA account

  • Paid parental leave

  • Paid life insurance, short-term and long-term
