Senior Systems Engineer
Location: ManchesterSalary: Up to £60,000 (+on call options)Hours: 40 per week
About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to take ownership of our on-premises and cloud infrastructure. You'll be responsible for maintaining and improving our core server, storage, networking and platforms, while driving stability, security, and efficiency across the environment.
You'll play a key role in shaping the future state of our systems landscape, supporting major projects, and providing senior-level technical guidance across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead administration and enhancement of Windows Server, Active Directory and services (including Azure AD).
- Manage and improve system security, Group Policies, and access controls.
- Support virtualisation platforms (VMware) and storage solutions.
- Oversee firewalls (Fortinet), Wi-Fi infrastructure (Cambium), and general network operations.
- Deliver 2nd/3rd line support across infrastructure and act as technical escalation point.
- Contribute to architecture decisions and strategic infrastructure improvements.
- Maintain monitoring, alerting and operational reliability using modern tooling.
Required Skills & Experience
- 7+ years' experience in IT infrastructure roles.
- Strong background in Microsoft technologies: Windows Server, AD, Azure AD, GPOs.
- Experience with SCCM/SCOM or equivalent monitoring systems.
- Knowledge of VMware vSphere/vCenter.
Experience
- Exposure to Linux or macOS.
- Experience with Azure or AWS cloud environments.
- Understanding of networking, SAN, and data centre technologies.
- PowerShell scripting and automation skills.
- Certifications such as ITIL, MCITP, CCNA.
- Microsoft 365 administration knowledge.
- Experience with Agile delivery environments.
- Familiarity with monitoring/SEIM platforms (PRTG, Sumo Logic).
