\n
Pay Rate: $80/hr to $90/hr W2
\n
\n
\n
\n
Purpose of the Team: The Building Automation Engineering team supports global data center infrastructure by designing, reviewing, and maintaining building automation and control systems that manage cooling, airflow, humidity, and other critical environmental functions. The team partners with vendors and engineering stakeholders to ensure consistent controls standards are implemented across data center projects worldwide, supports construction and commissioning activities, reviews technical deliverables, and resolves issues in mission-critical environments to maintain reliable Azure data center operations.
\n
\n
\n
Explain a typical day in the role.:
\n
The engineer's initial focus is reviewing BAS submittals, engineering deliverables, checking sequences of operations, points lists, controls schematics, riser and network architecture diagrams, panel and device schedules, then issuing comments and tracking them to closure through package revisions.
\n
\n
Prioritizing quality and specification compliance oversight will be required.
\n
\n
Daily coordination with mechanical, electrical, and facility engineering counterparts covers design reviews, RFIs, and field issues.
\n
What is the ideal background of a candidate for this role?:
\n
Strong working knowledge of building automation protocols such as BACnet and Modbus, and of DDC and PLC controls platforms.
\n
Working knowledge of HVAC and mechanical and electrical systems as they relate to controls integration.
\n
Proficiency with design and documentation tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and Visio.
\n
Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to represent design intent to integrators, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
\n
background:
\n
\n
Controls design experience in mission critical, data center, or critical facility environments.
\n
Experience authoring or maintaining controls design standards across a portfolio of projects.
\n
Familiarity with major DDC vendors. Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell or Automated Logic
\n
Prior experience delivering in a vendor or consulting model.
\n
What are unique selling points that would get candidates interested in your role over another?:
\n
Engagement and exposure to Hyperscale data center build outs. Opportunity to work with a dedicated and experienced global team.
\n
How will contractor performance be measured?:
\n
Performance is measured on the quality, timeliness, and consistency of deliverable review and closure.
\n
\n
Primary measures are the technical accuracy and clarity of review comments, closure of comments through package revisions with no open items at approval, and alignment of all work to current controls design standards.
\n
\n
Escaped issues that surface later in construction or commissioning serve as a leading indicator of review quality, and feedback from mechanical, electrical, and facility engineering counterparts covers responsiveness and technical judgment.
\n
If REMOTE: Are work hours flexible to accommodate time zone variance (+/- 2-3 hours?):
\n
Yes
\n
Top 3 Must-Have HARD Skills & years of experience for each:
\n
1. BAS engineering experience - 8+ years
\n
2. Mission critical / data center construction experience - 5+ years
\n
3. Major DDC platform experience - 5+ years
\n
\n
\n
\n
Best vs. Average:
\n
→ Experience supporting mission-critical environments such as data centers, critical facilities, hospitals, or other high-availability infrastructure.
\n
→ Hands-on experience designing, programming, commissioning, or supporting Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Direct Digital Controls (DDC) platforms.
\n
→ Experience reviewing controls design packages, sequences of operations, controls schematics, points lists, network architecture diagrams, and BAS submittals.
\n
→ Exposure to hyperscale data center design, construction, commissioning, or operations.
\n
→ Experience authoring, maintaining, or enforcing engineering standards across a portfolio of projects.
\n
→ Familiarity with major DDC vendors such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, or Automated Logic.
\n
→ Proficiency with design and documentation tools including AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and Visio.
\n
→ Strong understanding of building automation protocols such as BACnet and Modbus, as well as DDC and PLC control systems.
\n
→ Experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams, vendors, and system integrators in a global project environment.
\n
→ Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document findings, track design comments to closure, and clearly communicate design intent to stakeholders.
