3x Shift Engineer

Are you an electrically biased engineer looking to take the next step in your career with one of Europe’s fastest-growing digital infrastructure providers? We’re working with a leading data centre operator who are expanding their Birmingham team and seeking three new Shift Engineers. This role is critical to keeping state-of-the-art facilities running smoothly, working on a 4-on, 4-off shift pattern as part of a small, highly skilled onsite team. You’ll take ownership of maintaining critical infrastructure, responding to incidents, and ensuring uptime, while benefiting from excellent training, development opportunities and certifications.

Responsibilities:

As part of the facilities team, you’ll be responsible for the hands-on operation and maintenance of critical systems in a 24/7 environment.

Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical infrastructure (UPS, batteries, switchgear, LV/MV distribution).

Carry out both preventative and reactive maintenance activities to ensure operational resilience.

Respond to incidents quickly and independently, escalating when required.

Support mechanical systems and building services (cooling, HVAC, BMS).

Keep detailed logs, records, and ensure compliance with regulations.

Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and training programmes.

Work as part of a four-person shift team under a site supervisor, covering 12-hour shifts (7am–7pm, with nights one in four).

Skills / Must have:

Electrical bias with relevant City & Guilds qualifications (installations acceptable).

Minimum BS7671 18th Edition certification.

Strong ability to work independently and with the right attitude to problem-solving.

Experience working in critical environments (data centres, hospitals, airports, water treatment, etc.).

Nice to haves:

Mechanical bias and/or experience with building services.

Knowledge of BMS or network systems.

Broad skill set across controls and critical facilities.

Salary: £45k - £55k with overtime rates at 1.5x (Mon–Sat) and 2x (Sundays).

Location / Work Setup: Birmingham data centre site. 4-on, 4-off shifts, 12 hours (7am–7pm). Nights 1 in 4.
