Data Centre 2IC Shift Technician – Critical Environment - London
Our client, a leading provider of mission-critical data centre and facilities services, is seeking a highly skilled 2IC Shift Technician to support operations at a major London data centre. This is a pivotal position, acting as the deputy to the Shift Leader, ensuring continuity of service and technical excellence in a demanding critical environment.
The Role
As the 2IC Shift Technician, you will apply strong electrical and mechanical expertise to operate, maintain, and oversee critical infrastructure systems. You will play a key role in risk management, compliance, and incident response, stepping into the Shift Leader role when required to ensure seamless service delivery and 24/7 operational resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain all M&E systems, including HV/LV electrical, UPS, generators, cooling, fire suppression, and BMS.
- Deliver PPM, reactive, and corrective maintenance in line with SLAs and compliance requirements.
- Support and deputise for the Shift Leader during absences, ensuring operational continuity.
- Prepare, review, and implement MOPs, SOPs, EOPs, and switching schedules, participating in scenario-based drills.
- Supervise and coordinate specialist subcontractors, ensuring safe systems of work.
- Support team development, technical training, and knowledge transfer to ensure high standards of service.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in data centre or critical environment operations.
- HNC/HND or equivalent electrical/mechanical qualification or apprenticeship.
- HV Authorised Person (AP) certification.
- Strong technical knowledge across electrical, mechanical, and data centre infrastructure systems.
- Excellent communication skills with proven ability to lead teams under pressure.
