Job DescriptionJob DescriptionPosition SummaryThe Start-Up & Commissioning Manager is responsible for leading, coordinating, and executing the start-up, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems across projects. This role ensures all HVAC, plumbing, piping, and associated systems are installed, started, tested, and commissioned in accordance with contract documents, manufacturer requirements, and company quality standards. The Manager partners closely with Project Management, Field Operations, Controls, and Clients to deliver fully operational systems and smooth project closeout.Role Responsibilities

  • Review and comprehending project contract documents.
  • Support project managers in maintaining equipment tracking and start-up matrix.
  • Supervise and schedule the start-up of all mechanical and plumbing equipment.
  • Manage and schedule start-up foremen and superintendents.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and forensic investigations of construction-related issues.
  • Collaborate with project teams to uphold the project schedule from start-up to closeout.
  • Interface directly with mechanical equipment vendors for vendor-designated start-ups.
  • Collaborate closely with and assist the owner's commissioning agent.
  • Provide technical support and assistance in addressing commissioning issues.
  • Maintain schedule and manpower projections related to start-up activities.
  • Oversee and document installation verification and pre-functional testing.
  • Work with temperature controls subcontractors and test and balance subcontractors throughout the commissioning phase.
  • Coordinate and manage project team activities to assist with smoke control testing.

Qualifications:
Required

  • 8–12+ years of experience in mechanical construction, HVAC systems, or commissioning.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of HVAC systems, controls, and sequences of operation.
  • Experience leading start-up and commissioning for large commercial or industrial projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and control diagrams.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience with mission-critical, healthcare, data center, or industrial facilities.
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE commissioning guidelines and best practices.
  • Experience coordinating with third-party commissioning agents and TAB firms.
  • Mechanical Engineering degree, trade background, or equivalent experience.
