We are currently seeking a Systems Engineer for a 6 month contract to hire opportunity that is in Elk Grove Village IL.
This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise infrastructure across corporate and divisional environments. The Senior Systems Engineer will ensure system stability, integration, and performance while providing advanced technical support to optimize business operations. The System Engineer's assignments involve moderately complex issues that require an in-depth evaluation of various factors. The position will primarily focus on M365 enterprise and data center environments. The role will also assist with acquisition/integration matters and other ad hoc projects that may arise.
Key Responsibilities
O365 and Azure Management
- Skilled in managing Azure Resource Groups, Virtual Networks (VNets), Network Security Groups (NSGs), and role-based control (RBAC) to maintain secure and organized infrastructure.
- Experienced with Azure Active Directory (Entra ID) administration, including conditional access policies, governance, and hybrid synchronization.
- Working knowledge of Power Automate and Power Apps for process automation, system alerts, and productivity solutions.
Exchange Administration and SharePoint Administration
- Strong background in Exchange Online, including mailbox provisioning, transport rules, retention policies, and shared mailboxes.
- Having a background in troubleshooting mail flow covering DMARC/DKIM, using the Message Trace in Exchange Admin Center (EAC).
- Manage SharePoint Online site collections, permissions, and document libraries to maintain secure, structured, and compliant collaboration across departments.
Infrastructure & Data Center Management
- To migrate and transfer production workloads from divisional environments into standardized regional data centers.
- Design, implement, and maintain enterprise infrastructure systems, including servers, applications, storage, and virtualization platforms.
- Administer and support hybrid-cloud environments, ensuring seamless integration between cloud-based VMs and traditional data centers.
Administration & Standardization
- Support corporate M365 environments and server administration, domain role management, and feature configuration across multiple domains and function levels.
- Guide divisional IT teams in standardizing Group Policies, LAPS, and Domain Security Groups to maintain consistency and compliance.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation, procedures, and technical standards across all environments.
Security & Data Protection
- Ensure the integrity of global system backups and disaster recovery testing across all server environments.
- Collaborate with IT security and network teams to address vulnerabilities, isolate open ports and protocols, and enforce best practices in server security.
- Participate in patch management and vulnerability remediation to maintain compliance and protect enterprise systems.
System Integration & Automation
- Work with various business units and IT teams to integrate new technologies and applications across diverse environments.
- Identify, design, and implement automation solutions using RMM and ITSM tools to streamline server and workstation support.
- Develop long-term, scalable infrastructure solutions to improve operational efficiency and system reliability.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science/information technology or 5+ years of technical experience.
- Experience managing various hypervisors with an emphasis on VMware vSphere environments.
- Advanced troubleshooting knowledge surrounding Microsoft Server Roles such as (AD, DNS, DHCP, RDS, DFS, and IIS)
- Ability to prioritize tasks during outage-type events and communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding the scope of impacted systems and steps being taken to return to normal production status.
- Knowledge of Cloud and Hybrid Cloud environments, determining the best infrastructure for various workloads.
- Communicate effectively with all necessary team members to resolve issues promptly.
- Ability to interpret or discuss complex information with others and provide advice and recommendations involving rather complex issues.
- Can work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Highly self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to progress on special assignments or projects with minimal guidance.
- Occasional travel may be required.
