Systems Engineering Technician

Location: Hillsboro, OR (Onsite)

Duration: 6-Month Contract (Extension possible)

Pay Rate: $70–80/hour

As part of their continued growth, our client is seeking a Systems Engineering Technician to support their on-premise private cloud and large-scale compute environments. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the data centers and engineering labs that power global development teams testing next- hardware and software. Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with system architects, hardware and software engineers, QA teams, and platform operations to support the design, deployment, and validation of next- products
  • Manage and maintain a large-scale compute farm, including builders, packagers, testers, and core infrastructure
  • Ensure availability targets are met and lead system recovery efforts when issues arise
  • Deploy, qualify, and support new systems and emerging technologies during bring-up phases
  • Oversee inventory tracking and lifecycle management of assets across data centers and labs
  • Collect operational metrics and develop clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and world-class data center and lab environment
  • Troubleshoot hardware, Linux, Windows, and infrastructure issues in partnership with engineering and operations teams
  • Plan, deploy, and support on-premises private cloud infrastructure in collaboration with datacenter and network engineering teams
  • Drive efficiency improvements to maximize system availability, throughput, and test accuracy while meeting SLAs and KPIs
  • Represent the team in meetings with internal stakeholders and contribute to global operational initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of experience working in data centers or large engineering lab environments
  • Experience with Linux, Windows, and macOS operating systems
  • Familiarity with source control management tools such as Git or Perforce
  • Proficiency with DCIM tools (e.g., Nautobot) and scripting or automation using shell, Python, or Ansible
  • Working knowledge of networking protocols and services such as TCP/IP, DNS, NFS, and SSL
  • Hands-on experience with system deployments, GPUs, and PCB-level hardware
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams

Qualifications:

  • Experience managing HPC clusters using tools such as Slurm or BCM
  • Hands-on experience with OpenStack or similar private cloud platforms
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA or equivalent)
  • Strong background in Windows and Linux administration within dense datacenter environments
  • Experience with virtualization technologies, hypervisors, and VM platforms
  • Knowledge of datacenter infrastructure, including liquid-cooling systems
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort performing physical, hands-on tasks in a datacenter setting
  • Demonstrated technical curiosity, innovation, and willingness to go the extra mile to support team success

This position is fully onsite and requires local travel between data centers within Hillsboro, Oregon.
