Fl Networks is a leading provider of telecommunications services between the US and Mexico. We provide voice and data services to Fortune 1000 companies, telecommunications, and cable companies over a fiber optic network that spans over 35,000 km between both countries.

We have an immediate need for an experienced Infrastructure Technician. This position will be based in El Paso, Texas.

The Role:

The Infrastructure Technician safely performs duties involving the equipment installation inside data centers, perform fiber connections between equipment, test outside fiber links, attend and repair outages in data centers and OSP.

The Responsibilities:

  • Installs, repairs and tests fiber cable in a variety of environments (underground, indoor, aerial).
  • Performs fiber termination and splicing per design documentation, including use of fusion splice machines, various connectors, and terminations.
  • Performs testing and troubleshooting activities with modern fiber test equipment (OTDR, Power Meter, etc...).
  • Performs installation and power up of telecom equipment inside datacenters.
  • Collects and interprets engineering documentation, to include schematics, fiber management systems and performance OTDR reports and also maintains proper documentation on changes and upgrades.
  • Provides both reactive and preventive maintenance for fiber networks.
  • Follows company policies related to safety and various company procedures. Obtains necessary equipment outages and clearances.
  • Responsible for vehicle, test equipment, and job material associated with job assignments.
  • Performs related work as required and/or assigned; attends training programs, seminars, conferences, and meetings; assists degreed engineers and/or other technicians.
  • Must be available to work overtime and accept callouts.
  • Must report job updates and network documentation using company software.
  • Performs Locating & Marking: Accurately identify and mark underground telecommunications fiber using paint, flags, and stakes based on utility maps and, if necessary, physical excavation (shoveling).
  • Technical Skill: Proficiency in operating electronic locating equipment (e.g., Radiodetection tools). Interpreting, using electronic detection equipment, working outdoors in all weather conditions, and maintaining strict safety/time compliance.

The Requirements:

  • Drivers license required.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Proper use of basic hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge and safe installation practices as they pertain to the construction of telecommunication infrastructure (racks, equipment, grounding, cables, and associated terminations).
  • Familiarity with fiber optic cables, connectors, splicing techniques, enclosures, organization, and best practices.
  • Ability to use a variety of specialized fiber test equipment, such as power meters, traffic identifiers, OTDRs, VFL, Laser Source, etc
  • Knowledge of utility power systems.
  • Knowledge of principles of electrical and electronics is .
  • Knowledge of personal computer operation and use.
  • Industry certifications related to fiber optic installation and testing are a plus.
  • As crews often work in public areas, individuals must be able to maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication, organization, leadership, and customer service skills, along with strong business ethics.
