Job Title: Traveling Underground Utility Superintendent

Location: West Texas (Projects across Sweetwater, Abilene, Childress, Amarillo)
Compensation: $135,000 – $195,000 + Per Diem ($125 – $165/day)
Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site

About the Role

We are actively seeking an experienced Traveling Underground Utility Superintendent to lead and oversee underground utility operations on large-scale data center and heavy civil construction projects throughout West Texas, with immediate needs in Sweetwater, Amarillo, and Abilene. These are long-term assignments (2+ years) with travel rotations dependent on project requirements.

This role is ideal for a hands-on field leader with extensive experience managing underground utility installations on projects valued at $100M+, including water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, duct banks, and site utility infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving production, maintaining safety and quality standards, and ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee all underground utility construction activities, including water, sewer, storm drain, force main, duct bank, and related infrastructure installations
  • Lead field crews performing excavation, trenching, shoring, pipe installation, backfilling, and testing operations
  • Coordinate daily with Project Managers, Project Engineers, subcontractors, inspectors, and utility providers
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, safety regulations, and quality standards
  • Interpret utility plans, profiles, and construction drawings to ensure accurate installation and compliance
  • Monitor production rates, manpower utilization, equipment needs, and project schedules
  • Oversee utility testing, inspections, and project closeout requirements
  • Manage site logistics, sequencing, and coordination with other trades to minimize conflicts and maximize efficiency
  • Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce OSHA and company safety policies
  • Provide regular progress updates, forecasts, and reporting to project leadership

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience as a Superintendent or Lead Superintendent overseeing underground utility construction projects
  • Proven experience managing underground utility scopes on projects valued at $100M or greater
  • Strong expertise in excavation, trench safety, utility installation, grading, and heavy civil construction operations
  • Experience with water distribution systems, sanitary sewer systems, storm drainage, duct banks, and utility infrastructure
  • Knowledge of GPS machine control systems and utility layout practices
  • Ability to read and interpret civil construction plans, profiles, and specifications
  • Strong leadership, communication, scheduling, and problem-solving skills
  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively between project sites throughout West Texas
  • Ability to adapt to changing project schedules and travel rotations
