UPS Battery & Preventative Maintenance Technician
Pay: $30.00–$50.00/hour (Based on Experience)
Job Type: Temporary with potential for full-time hire
We are seeking an experienced UPS Battery & Preventative Maintenance Technician to support the maintenance of mission-critical power systems. This position will begin as a temporary assignment, allowing us to evaluate technical skills and performance, with the opportunity to transition into a full-time role. Additional technicians may be added as our team grows.
The ideal candidate has a strong electrical background with hands-on experience performing battery replacements, battery testing, and preventative maintenance on UPS systems for major manufacturers.
Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) on single-phase and three-phase UPS systems.
- Replace and install VRLA and lithium-ion UPS batteries, including complete battery strings and battery cabinets.
- Conduct battery testing and diagnostics, including impedance/conductance testing, voltage checks, and capacity assessments.
- Perform visual inspections, verify system alarms, review event logs, and ensure overall UPS system health and operational readiness.
- Troubleshoot basic UPS and battery-related issues and escalate complex problems to engineering or OEM support when necessary.
- Follow manufacturer procedures and electrical safety standards while working with energized critical power equipment and battery systems.
- Accurately document maintenance activities, battery replacements, test results, and service recommendations.
- Travel to customer sites supporting data centers, healthcare facilities, telecom environments, and other mission-critical locations.
Required Qualifications
- General electrician experience with a strong focus on:
- UPS battery testing
- Battery replacements
- Preventative maintenance of UPS equipment
- Hands-on experience servicing UPS systems from one or more of the following manufacturers:
- APC (Schneider Electric)
- Eaton
- Vertiv/Liebert
- Toshiba
- Mitsubishi
- Ability to safely work around energized electrical equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills.
- Willingness to travel to customer locations as needed.
Qualifications
- OEM training or manufacturer certifications.
- Experience with both VRLA and Lithium-Ion battery systems.
- Experience working in mission-critical environments such as data centers, telecom facilities, hospitals, or industrial sites.
- Thorough understanding of electrical safety practices, including PPE requirements and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Clean background .
Compensation
- $30.00–$50.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
This position will require some travel, but perdiem will be offered.
