Vice President of Civil & Structural Engineering – Role Description
\n
This is a full-time remote role for a Vice President of Civil & Structural Engineering, based in the United States. The position is ideal for an accomplished engineering leader with deep experience in nuclear facility design, structural analysis, seismic engineering, and complex infrastructure development who is passionate about building the next of advanced nuclear power facilities.

The Vice President of Civil & Structural Engineering will lead Hadron Energy's civil and structural engineering organization and serve as the senior technical and organizational leader responsible for the design, analysis, qualification, and optimization of the structures supporting Hadron's micro modular reactor platform. This individual will own the overall civil and structural engineering strategy across reactor buildings, foundations, safety-related structures, site infrastructure, structural supports, and associated interfaces.

You will work closely with executive leadership, reactor design, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, licensing, safety analysis, construction, and external engineering partners to develop safe, standardized, constructible, and cost-effective facilities for commercial reactor deployment. The Vice President will also build and lead Hadron's growing civil and structural engineering organization while maintaining technical oversight of substantial subcontracted engineering scopes.

Responsibilities

- Lead Hadron Energy's Civil & Structural Engineering organization, establishing technical strategy, priorities, staffing plans, and engineering standards
- Own the overall design and engineering of reactor buildings, foundations, safety-related structures, equipment supports, and supporting civil infrastructure
- Provide senior technical leadership for seismic analysis, soil-structure interaction (SSI), structural dynamics, and structural qualification
- Establish civil and structural design criteria, loading methodologies, engineering procedures, and technical requirements
- Lead optimization of reactor building configurations to reduce construction cost, material requirements, site complexity, and deployment schedules
- Oversee structural analyses for normal operating, environmental, seismic, transportation, and accident loading conditions
- Ensure civil and structural designs comply with applicable NRC requirements, nuclear industry standards, and engineering codes
- Provide technical direction and oversight to Principal, Lead, and Senior Civil/Structural Engineers
- Coordinate closely with reactor systems, mechanical, electrical, and Balance of Plant teams to ensure facility designs integrate effectively with plant systems and equipment
- Lead technical oversight of external engineering firms, EPC partners, consultants, and specialty subcontractors performing civil and structural work
- Review and approve critical engineering calculations, design specifications, drawings, reports, and technical deliverables
- Support NRC licensing activities, including development and review of licensing documentation and responses related to civil and structural design
- Lead civil/structural participation in design reviews, configuration management, change control, and engineering decision-making
- Support site development, constructability assessments, deployment planning, and standardization of reactor facility designs across future sites
- Partner with procurement, supply chain, and construction organizations to evaluate suppliers, contractors, fabrication methods, and construction strategies
- Recruit, develop, and mentor a high-performing civil and structural engineering organization as Hadron progresses toward commercialization

Qualifications & Skillsets
\n
- \n
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Structural Engineer (S.E.) license strongly
- 15+ years of progressive experience in civil and structural engineering, with significant experience supporting nuclear, power , heavy industrial, or similarly safety-critical facilities
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary civil and structural engineering organizations or major engineering programs
- Deep expertise in seismic engineering, structural dynamics, soil-structure interaction, foundation design, reinforced concrete, and structural steel
- Strong knowledge of nuclear facility design requirements and applicable standards, including ACI, AISC, ASCE, and NRC regulatory guidance
- Experience with structural analysis and finite element tools such as ANSYS, SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, LS-DYNA, Abaqus, or equivalent
- Experience developing and reviewing design criteria, loading specifications, calculations, drawings, and engineering specifications
- Demonstrated ability to oversee engineering performed by EPC firms, consultants, subcontractors, and external design organizations
- Experience supporting NRC licensing, design certification, construction permitting, or nuclear facility development is highly desirable
- Strong understanding of constructability, modularization, cost optimization, and project execution for complex infrastructure
- Excellent technical judgment, leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Proven ability to recruit, mentor, and develop senior technical engineering teams
- Passion for clean energy, engineering excellence, and developing standardized infrastructure that enables rapid deployment of advanced nuclear power
