The company’s mission is to revolutionize the premium cataract surgery experience by allowing surgeons to partner with their patients to achieve optimized results for every unique eye.
OVERVIEW:
This role leads the Professional Education function, integrating global clinical training, internal readiness, and customer education into a single, cohesive strategy. The Vice President will define and execute a modern education vision that strengthens surgeon, optometrist, and staff competency, accelerates adoption, and delivers a consistent, premium experience worldwide.
You’ll partner closely with Clinical Affairs, Medical Affairs, R&D, Marketing, Regulatory/QA, and Global Commercial teams to ensure consistent, high-quality training and professional education that accelerates adoption and drives exceptional clinical outcomes worldwide.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Global Education Strategy
- Build and own a unified strategy that integrates Professional Education and Clinical Training across all audiences.
- Develop a scalable roadmap supporting global adoption, surgeon proficiency, and consistent clinical outcomes through digital, hybrid, and hands-on learning pathways.
Professional Education
- Lead the creation of ophthalmologist, optometrist, and clinic staff education programs, including workshops, CME pathways, digital training, and patient education resources.
- Ensure professional education content translates clinical science and surgical best practices into practical, accessible learning experiences.
- Partner with global commercial teams to align education with adoption processes and on-the-job requirements.
- Capture and translate clinical outcomes, case data, and best practices into education content and playbooks for internal and external use, ensuring continuous improvement in training quality and performance.
Clinical Training
- Build and oversee training programs, curricula, and competency frameworks for Clinical Trainers, Ophthalmic Surgical Trainers, and commercial field teams.
- Develop train-the-trainer programs and certification models to ensure global consistency and scalable learning.
- Integrate clinical evidence, new product innovations, and workflow improvements into internal training programs.
Modern Learning & Digital Innovation
- Lead the evolution of training modalities including LMS design, digital learning, video-based training, microlearning, simulation, and interactive educational tools.
- Partner with technical teams and digital vendors to bring modern education technology into the ecosystem.
- Expand digital infrastructure by building a centralized knowledge system that supports content access, analytics, and AI-enabled tools to scale education and track performance globally.
- Own and evolve the Customer Training Portal to ensure seamless tracking, compliance, and global accessibility.
Global Consistency & Execution
- Establish standardized onboarding and education processes for internal field teams, external customer practices, and global training centers to ensure uniform quality, compliance, and experience across all regions.
- Establish a closed-loop system that captures lessons from escalations and integrates them into updated education and onboarding programs.
- Monitor OUS distributor training activity and ensure compliance with training requirements, standards, and reporting frameworks.
- Set performance metrics to evaluate training effectiveness and continuously refine programs based on data and field insights.
- Design and maintain clear customer escalation and troubleshooting pathways that connect field feedback, training content, and customer support.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Collaborate with Clinical Affairs, Medical Affairs, R&D, Regulatory/QA, Customer Success, and Commercial leadership to ensure scientific accuracy, compliance, and consistent messaging throughout the customer journey.
- Partner with Marketing to ensure education and messaging align with customer, patient, and product positioning.
- Provide clinical and usability feedback to support new product development and process improvement initiatives.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing education teams that connect professional education, customer success, and clinical performance metrics to drive measurable outcomes.
- Deep experience developing clinical, professional, or technical education programs within ophthalmology, medical devices, or related healthcare fields.
- Strong understanding of intraocular lenses, cataract surgery, refractive surgery, and clinical workflows highly .
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum design, adult learning principles, digital learning, or modern training methodologies.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate complex clinical science into engaging learning experiences.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to influence across clinical, commercial, and technical functions.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and develop a global team across Professional Education and Clinical Training.
- Directly manage U.S. training staff and provide oversight and alignment for OUS training teams and distributor partners.
- Guide Clinical Trainers, Ophthalmic Surgical Trainers, and education specialists to ensure consistent global training standards.
- Build team capabilities through coaching, hiring, and clear competency expectations.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING:
- Advanced degree in life sciences, optometry, ophthalmology, or related field .
- 10+ years of experience in professional education, clinical training, medical education, or similar roles within MedTech or healthcare.
- Experience leading global or multi-region education programs strongly .
- Training to be completed per the training plan for this position as maintained in the document control system
- The training requirements on TRN-10007 Insider Trading Policy, TRN-10008 Global Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption Policy and TRN-10009 Code of Business Conducts and Ethics must be diligently completed within 30 days from the hiring date and on an annual basis
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- COA, COT, COMT, or equivalent ophthalmic technician certification (, not required)
- Optometry or ophthalmic clinical licensure is a plus
- Certifications in instructional design, adult learning, or digital learning (e.g., ATD, eLearning Guild) are helpful but not mandatory
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Strong proficiency with LMS platforms, digital learning tools, and multimedia education technologies
- Skilled in presentation and content creation tools (PowerPoint, Keynote, video-based training platforms)
- Comfortable working with CRM/ERP/commercial systems to track training outcomes (e.g., Salesforce is a plus)
- Ability to interpret data from dashboards, training analytics tools, or customer engagement platforms
- Familiarity with collaboration tools such as SharePoint, Teams, and similar systems
PERFORMANCE METRICS
- Time from contract signature to completion of standardized onboarding and consistent LAL utilization
- Percentage of practices certified and performing cases within target timeframes
- Progression of surgeons and practices to higher proficiency tiers
- Training completion and competency scores across customer and internal teams
- Reduction in reactive support needs and escalation frequency
- Customer satisfaction (NPS) with onboarding, training, and troubleshooting
- Improvement in clinical outcomes and submission of standardized results
- Growth in LAL adoption, utilization, and new surgeon activation
- Decrease in repeat complaint categories and issues requiring Medical Affairs review
