Position Overview

The Vice President of Operations directs operational strategy, financial performance, and service delivery for a workforce housing portfolio exceeding 14,000 beds. This executive ensures seamless hospitality, food services, labor efficiency, and comprehensive facilities maintenance across remote and urban locations throughout the continental United States and Alaska, while directly partnering with corporate finance to maximize overall operational profitability.

Location: Houston, TX (Local candidates or those willing to relocate to Houston )

 

Core Responsibilities

Corporate Finance Partnership

  • Controller Collaboration: Work directly with the Corporate Controller to monitor, analyze, and manage the financial performance of all operations.
  • Variance Management: Review monthly financial statements alongside finance leadership to identify and correct budget variances.
  • Forecast Alignment: Co-develop rolling financial forecasts that balance field logistics with corporate fiscal goals.
  • Capital Approval: Partner with the finance team to justify, review, and approve major capital expenditure (CapEx) requests.

Document Control & Financial Reporting

  • Process Architecture: Establish and enforce robust document control processes across all remote and regional sites.
  • Cost Visibility: Ensure timely and highly accurate reporting of all project, maintenance, and operational costs to the corporate office.
  • Audit Readiness: Maintain rigorous digital archives of receipts, invoices, and change orders for internal and external auditing.
  • Data Integrity: Standardize data entry protocols across sites to eliminate financial reporting delays and discrepancies.

Corporate Contract & Profitability Management

  • Contract Lifecycle: Oversee the execution, compliance, and renewal of high-value corporate B2B lodging contracts.
  • Margin Protection: Audit client contracts continuously to align service delivery with agreed-upon profit margins.
  • Scope Creep Control: Monitor site operations to ensure uncontracted services are billed accurately to corporate clients.
  • Client Relations: Serve as the executive escalation point for corporate clients regarding service level agreements (SLAs).

Budgetary & Financial Control

  • Food Cost Optimization: Control food cost percentages through menu engineering and strict portion controls.
  • Labor Management: Optimize labor spend using data-driven scheduling to match fluctuating occupancy rates.
  • Operational Budgeting: Direct P&L performance for all multi-million dollar regional and site-level budgets.
  • Supply Chain Leverage: Negotiate contracts with food distributors, parts suppliers, and trade contractors.

Facilities Maintenance & Asset Preservation

  • Infrastructure Management: Oversee multi-site preventive and corrective maintenance for buildings, HVAC, and utilities.
  • Extreme Weather Maintenance: Direct facility preservation strategies specifically designed for remote, sub-zero Alaskan environments.
  • Work Order Systems: Implement and track Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to optimize repair times.

Portfolio Leadership & Compliance

  • Geographic Oversight: Manage complex logistics across diverse climates and remote infrastructure networks.
  • Service Standardization: Deploy uniform hospitality, catering, and facility standards across all 14,000+ beds.
  • HSE Leadership: Enforce strict Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) protocols across all maintenance and living areas.

Position Requirements

Experience & Education

  • Experience: 10+ years managing large-scale workforce housing, corporate lodging, or remote camp services.
  • Commercial Expertise: Proven track record managing complex B2B client contracts and multi-million dollar P&Ls.
  • Technical & Budgetary Skills: Strong background in multi-site facilities engineering and large-scale labor budgeting.
  • Scale Expertise: Proven success overseeing a decentralized portfolio of 10,000+ beds or units.
  • Travel: Ability to travel up to 50% nationally, including frequent site visits to remote areas.

Critical Skills

  • Financial & Administrative Literacy: Advanced proficiency in contract negotiation, document control workflows, and project cost accounting.
  • Interpersonal Dynamics: Proven ability to collaborate effectively with corporate accounting executives and cross-functional teams.
  • Tech Stack: Experience with specialized document management systems (DMS), ERP platforms, CMMS tools, and labor management software.
