Role Overview

The Welder III is an advanced-level welding professional responsible for performing complex welding and fabrication work on structural steel components, fuel tanks, frames, and custom assemblies used in ASC's power integration solutions. This role serves as a technical resource within the manufacturing team and is expected to consistently produce high-quality welds, troubleshoot fabrication challenges, and support the development of less experienced welders.

The ideal candidate demonstrates expert-level welding skills, strong blueprint interpretation abilities, and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Success in this role will be measured through weld quality, productivity, rework reduction, safety performance, and overall contribution to manufacturing excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform advanced welding duties using MIG, TIG, wire-feed welding equipment, spot welders, and oxy-acetylene torches
• Execute complex welding operations on structural steel assemblies, I-beams, frames, fuel tanks, and custom fabrication projects
• Set up and lay out work using material handling equipment and manual fabrication methods to support production requirements
• Operate grinders, sanders, wire wheels, and other finishing tools to prepare materials and finish completed weldments
• Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions while maintaining high standards of quality and safety
• Interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, weld symbols, and specifications to ensure accurate fabrication
• Clamp, position, tack weld, drill, mill, tap, cut, and assemble components to achieve proper fit-up and alignment
• Inspect materials, equipment, and completed weldments to identify defects and ensure compliance with quality requirements
• Perform visual inspections and dimensional verification of completed work and execute rework when required
• Diagnose welding defects and implement corrective actions to improve quality and reduce rework
• Change welding wire, gases, consumables, and machine settings as needed to optimize weld performance
• Ensure welding equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and operated in accordance with company and manufacturer guidelines
• Assist with fuel tank pressure testing activities and complete necessary repairs or modifications
• Support new product introductions, prototype builds, and special fabrication projects as required
• Serve as a technical resource and mentor for Welder I and Welder II team members
• Assist supervisors in training team members on welding techniques, quality standards, and safe work practices
• Maintain accurate labor reporting and production documentation through company systems and timesheets
• Report production, quality, material, and safety concerns to leadership in a timely manner
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, safety, and operational efficiency
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with company standards

What We're Looking For

• Advanced experience performing MIG welding in a manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial environment
• Proven ability to perform structural welding and complex fabrication work with minimal supervision
• TIG welding experience
• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication specifications
• Demonstrated knowledge of welding processes, metallurgy, fabrication techniques, and weld quality requirements
• Experience with fuel tank fabrication, structural steel fabrication, or heavy industrial manufacturing
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to welding and fabrication processes
• Ability to mentor, coach, and support the development of less experienced welders
• High level of attention to detail and commitment to craftsmanship and quality
• Strong mathematical and measurement skills with proficiency using precision measuring tools
• Flexible and responsive with a strong team-oriented approach
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• Commitment to workplace safety, quality standards, accountability, and continuous improvement

Required Education & Training

• High School Diploma or GED required
• MIG Welding Certification
• TIG Welding Certification is a plus
• Vocational welding training, trade school certification, or equivalent welding education
• Additional welding certifications or industry-recognized qualifications strongly
• Demonstrated successful completion of advanced welding skill assessments
• Equivalent combination of education, training, and hands-on welding experience may be considered

Physical & Work Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and work throughout the production environment for extended periods
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to perform welding in flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions
• Ability to work safely around welding arcs, grinding operations, heat, noise, fumes, and moving equipment while utilizing required PPE
• Ability to operate welding, cutting, grinding, and fabrication equipment safely and effectively
• Ability to support overtime, weekend work, and varying production schedules as required
• Ability to work in both fabrication and assembly environments
