Associate Director - Mechanical (Data Centres / Mission Critical)
Hybrid – 3 days per week in a UK office (Manchester, London, Sunderland)
We are supporting a well-established, multi-disciplinary building services consultancy with the appointment of an Associate Director / Principal Mechanical Engineer to play a senior leadership role within their Mission Critical (Data Centre) team.
This is a hands-on technical and client-facing position, leading the mechanical design of complex data centre projects from early concept through to detailed design and delivery. You will act as Mechanical Design Lead, working closely with internal MEP teams and external stakeholders while helping to shape technical standards, project outcomes and client relationships within a growing data centre capability.
Key Responsibilities
Lead mechanical design for data centre projects from feasibility and concept through to detailed design and construction support
Oversee and review mechanical calculations, reports and specifications to ensure technical quality and compliance
Manage CFD briefing, coordination and review with specialist supply chain partners
Act as primary mechanical point of contact for clients and wider design teams
Provide technical leadership across HVAC, cooling, water and specialist data centre systems
Support project delivery, resourcing, programme and commercial performance
Contribute to proposals, bids and business development within the Mission Critical sector
Undertake technical reviews and mentor senior and mid-level engineers
About You
Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
Chartered Engineer (or equivalent)
Significant experience delivering data centre mechanical design within a consultancy environment
Strong understanding of redundancy, resiliency, uptime and tiered data centre design
Confident working directly with hyperscale and colocation clients
Advanced Revit and BIM capability
