Associate Electrical Design Engineer – Birmingham \n\n About the job:\nAs one of our Associate Electrical Engineers, you will join our soon-to-be-launched Birmingham office, working closely with our established Dublin team and supporting the continued growth of our UK presence. This is a key management role focused on delivering major hyperscale data centre projects across the EMEA region.\n\n The role will initially be remote, transitioning to a hybrid model once the Birmingham hub is operational, with flexible office attendance required.\n\n You will work across complex data centre projects throughout EMEA, acting as a senior technical authority and trusted decision-maker. As a self-starter, you will apply current technologies, make independent technical judgements and operate confidently within a fast-paced, agile environment.\n\n You will bring strong commercial awareness, making informed financial and project decisions while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure Ethos design processes and engineering standards are upheld to the highest level.\n\n About you:\n\nThe role will initially be remote, transitioning to a hybrid model once the Birmingham hub is operational, with flexible office attendance required.\nHonours degree - Chartered [an advantage, but not essential]\n10+ years recognised expert within the sector [electrical engineering and data centres or industrial/high-tech and commercial]\n3+ years' experience in people management, managing multidisciplinary teams (consultants and engineers, etc.)\n3+ years' project management experience, overseeing both electrical and mechanical engineering projects\nExcellent communication, presentation, and organisational skills\nAbility to work well with employees at all levels of the organisation\nDrive for continuous innovation and adoption of emerging technologies\nChampion excellence in the Ethos design process and engineering techniquesYour key day-to-day activities:\n\nReview technical designs to ensure that design & scope are fully understood\nEnhance functionality and costs on projects\nEnsure effective collaboration between M&E\nLead a high performing team, championing QA and QC, and hitting deadline targets\nMonitor costs and innovate to minimise expenses within the Ethos group\nAssist in the management of the resources within the group, including outsourcing\nCan interpret contracts, understanding terms and conditions and work to these parameters\nLiaise with senior management when new and relevant industry trends and products emerge\nAssist in the procurement of new business – liaising with the senior management team\nEffectively communicate to external parties [clients, suppliers, partners, vendors]\nBuild relationships with external business associates\nRepresent the group to the wider Ethos company, providing inputs to shape the companies Quality Assurance procedures\nManage a team in the delivery of multiple large-scale projects\nMonitor the development of the team through monthly 1-2-1’s and informal communication\nTrain junior team members and create action plans for poor performance\nEnsure new technologies are understood by the Ethos teamWhy Join?\n\n They are dedicated to fostering an environment that encourages both technical excellence and personal wellbeing.\n\nWhat's on offer:\n\nFlexible Fridays and a 9-day fortnight working schedule — enjoy every second Friday off to maintain work–life balance.\nA culture that values flexibility, learning, and teamwork, with clear progression pathways and support toward professional accreditation.\nOpportunities to work alongside some of the most experienced engineers in the industry, within a forward-thinking, technology-driven consultancy.Benefits:\n\nFlexible working times\n25 Days holidays\nPension Scheme\nWorking travel out-of-pocket expenses\nRegular training/mentoring / further college support\nSupport for Chartership\nSubsidised Health Insurance Allowance\nA Professional Subscription paid by the company\nPaid Statutory Leaves\nReferral scheme\nHeavily subsidised social committee (5 a side, golf society, climbing club and regular social events) \n\nThe NRL Group connect global companies with the right people to bring engineering projects to life.
