The Opportunity
A well-established, multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer to join its growing Manchester team. The business delivers technically robust, sustainable design solutions across the built environment and works on a diverse portfolio of local, , and international projects.
This is a senior technical and leadership role offering the opportunity to lead complex mechanical building services projects, develop client relationships, and support the growth and performance of a high-quality local team.
The Role
As an Associate Mechanical Engineer, you will take responsibility for the delivery of mechanical design services across multiple sectors, working closely with clients, internal stakeholders, and multidisciplinary design teams. You will act as a key point of contact on projects, ensuring technical excellence, commercial performance, and repeat business opportunities.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading the mechanical design delivery of small to large-scale building services projects
Acting as the primary client contact and maintaining strong professional relationships
Defining and agreeing project briefs, scopes, and deliverables
Coordinating mechanical services within multidisciplinary design teams
Managing project resources, workloads, and technical outputs
Monitoring project costs, programme, and profitability
Ensuring compliance with relevant British Standards and industry best practice
Supporting bid submissions and promoting the wider consultancy service offering
Mentoring and supporting the development of engineers within the team
Identifying and managing technical and commercial risk
Work on Projects typically spanning; Residential, Commercial Offices, Healthcare, Science & Research, Mission-Critical & Data Centres
About You
You will be an experienced mechanical building services professional with strong consultancy experience and the confidence to lead both technically and commercially.
Essential experience and skills:
Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer within a consultancy environment
Strong knowledge of mechanical building services systems, including HVAC, heating and ventilation
Experience delivering complex projects across multiple sectors
Confident working in multidisciplinary teams
Strong client-facing and communication skills
Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD
Good working knowledge of relevant British Standards
Ability to manage teams, delegate work, and check technical outputs
Desirable attributes:
Experience collaborating with complementary disciplines such as acoustics, fire engineering, sustainability, and modelling
Commercial awareness and experience supporting business development
