Commercial Manager - Energy Markets

Job Description

Commercial Manager - Energy Markets

The Opportunity

We are seeking an exceptional Head of Energy Markets to build and lead our energy commercial strategy at the intersection of renewable power, battery storage, and hyperscale data centre infrastructure.

This is a pivotal, high-impact role responsible for designing and executing innovative power procurement and supply models that underpin the next of AI-enabled digital infrastructure. You will lead the structuring and negotiation of complex energy arrangements - from grid-scale PPAs to private-wire solutions - enabling cost-optimised, low-carbon power delivery directly into large-scale data centre campuses.

The role combines deep market expertise with entrepreneurial execution: shaping how energy is procured, transported, and monetised across integrated “grid park” environments.

Key Responsibilities

Energy Strategy & Structuring

  • Define and execute a market-leading energy procurement and optimisation strategy across battery storage and data centre assets.
  • Structure and negotiate complex energy agreements, including:
  • Physical and virtual PPAs
  • Sleeve and synthetic PPAs
  • Private wire and direct supply structures
  • Behind-the-meter and co-located supply agreements
  • Long-term renewable offtake arrangements
  • Develop scalable strategies to secure low-cost renewable energy and optimise delivery into high-density compute environments.
  • Identify and execute opportunities to minimise transmission, distribution, and policy costs through asset configuration and market participation.

Grid Parks & Integrated Infrastructure

  • Lead the commercial design of integrated “grid park” developments combining:
  • Data centres
  • Battery storage
  • On-site and flexible demand assets
  • Shape commercial models for co-located infrastructure that enhance energy efficiency and reduce delivered power cost.
  • Partner with engineering and development teams to define grid connection strategies and their commercial implications.
  • Evaluate opportunities across ancillary services, flexibility markets, and embedded network structures.

Commercial Leadership & Negotiation

  • Lead negotiations with generators, utilities, traders, developers, and network operators.
  • Structure innovative pricing and supply models for hyperscale and enterprise data centre customers.
  • Support customer-facing energy discussions, enabling differentiated, cost-advantaged power solutions.
  • Build frameworks to monetise flexibility, storage, and integrated infrastructure advantages.

Market Intelligence & Risk

  • Maintain a forward-looking view on power markets, including regulatory change, grid reform, and renewable supply dynamics.
  • Assess market exposure and contribute to hedging and risk management strategies.
  • Provide strategic insight on power availability and pricing trends relevant to AI, cloud, and high-performance computing growth.

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the internal authority on energy markets, commercial structuring, and power strategy.
  • Work cross-functionally with investment, finance, legal, technical, and development teams to execute complex transactions.
  • Support capital raising, investor engagement, and strategic partnerships relating to energy and infrastructure.
  • Build and lead the energy markets capability as the platform scales.

Candidate Profile

  • ~10–15+ years’ experience across energy markets, power trading, renewables, or infrastructure commercialisation.
  • Strong track record structuring and closing complex PPAs and electricity supply agreements.
  • Deep understanding of wholesale power markets, grid charging regimes, and renewable economics.
  • Experience with private wire, embedded networks, or large-scale industrial or data centre power demand is highly advantageous.
  • Background spanning utilities, IPPs, trading houses, infrastructure investors, or hyperscale/large energy users .
  • Commercially driven, intellectually curious, and comfortable operating in a high-growth, delivery-focused environment.

Why This Role

  • Opportunity to define the power strategy behind next- AI infrastructure
  • High degree of autonomy and direct influence on asset-level economics
  • Exposure to cutting-edge integration of energy and digital infrastructure
  • Senior visibility with investors and executive leadership
