Job Description:
We are seeking a Commissioning Director with comprehensive expertise in both electrical and mechanical systems to lead mission-critical commissioning efforts for world-class technology clients. This role will oversee the full commissioning lifecycle of complex systems including power distribution, HVAC systems, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), backup generators, mechanical cooling systems, and medium-voltage switchgear.
The Commissioning Director will manage multidisciplinary teams, provide technical oversight, and serve as the key liaison between clients, contractors, and project stakeholders. This role requires a hands-on leader with deep domain knowledge in MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) systems for high-availability environments such as data centers.
Job Duties:
- Lead, manage, and mentor the commissioning team across multiple disciplines (mechanical and electrical).
- Develop and oversee comprehensive commissioning plans, scripts, and procedures.
- Validate mechanical and electrical equipment installations and system integration.
- Perform site observations and develop detailed functional test plans.
- Execute and witness commissioning tests in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all commissioning activities, maintaining effective communication with clients, contractors, and vendors.
- Coordinate with design, construction, and operations teams to ensure commissioning success.
- Review and analyze system design documents, submittals, and performance data.
- Generate high-quality technical reports, deficiency logs, and final commissioning documentation.
- Ensure safety, quality, and adherence to project timelines and budgets throughout all commissioning phases.
- Promote continuous improvement of commissioning processes and team capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in commissioning and startup of mechanical and/or electrical systems, with a strong emphasis on data centers, mission-critical environments, or large-scale infrastructure.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering . Equivalent military training, associate degree, or hands-on field experience will be considered.
- In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, CRAC units, chillers, boilers, pumps, power distribution, UPS, ATS, generators, and related infrastructure.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, especially under dynamic or ambiguous field conditions.
- Familiarity with mechanical and electrical codes (e.g., NEC, ASHRAE standards, NFPA, IEEE, etc.).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite; experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and commissioning management software is a plus.
- Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), CxA, or equivalent certification .
