Corporate Counsel, WWGS Legal

As part of the WWGS Legal Team, the Corporate Counsel, Grocery Store Operations position is a strategic legal advisor primarily supporting WWGS Grocery Store Operations. This role will provide legal advice on various regulatory law issues impacting multi- grocery retailers, including Food Law/FDA compliance; weights and measures; Environmental, Health and Safety (“EHS”); sustainability; or other grocery store operations compliance initiatives (bag restrictions, SNAP/WIC, bottle bills, ADA etc.). The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, able to build relationships across a matrixed organization, and in addition to having in depth knowledge of one of the core regulatory areas detailed above, will also have knowledge of or interest in learning about other regulatory areas impacting multi- grocery store retailers and be able to assist on those issues as assigned. This role is located in Austin, TX; Seattle, WA; or Arlington, VA.

Key job responsibilities
• Build strong relationships with grocery store operations leaders in assigned operational areas and provide day-to-day guidance on legal risks/compliance initiatives for grocery store operations.
• Act as business partner for strategic priorities and programs, identifying risks and compliance requirements and identifying and connecting with other subject matter experts to ensure strategic priorities are comprehensively reviewed for legal/regulatory risks.
• Draft, review, and provide legal advice on a variety of business documents, including policies/procedures and SOPs.
• Stay abreast of, advise and manage compliance with regards to Food Law; Weights and Measures compliance; EHS; sustainability, and other retail operations initiatives (i.e. bag restrictions, SNAP/WIC, bottle bills, ADA compliance) as assigned.
• Investigate, develop strategy, and respond to government agency complaints, investigations, and inspections including the FDA, state/local departments of health, Federal or state office of Weights and Measures, State Attorney Generals etc.
• Work with and manage supervise outside counsel relationships as necessary for on-going compliance, risk mitigation, or responding to active/urgent issues that could negatively impact grocery store operations.
