Position Summary:
The Field Project Cost Controller is responsible for monitoring, tracking, and analyzing project costs to support the successful financial performance of construction and field operations projects. This role works closely with project managers, field teams, accounting, and leadership to ensure accurate cost reporting, budget compliance, forecasting, and financial controls throughout the project lifecycle. The Field Project Cost Controller helps identify financial risks, cost variances, and opportunities for improved operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Track and monitor project costs, budgets, commitments, and expenditures for active field projects
  • Prepare and maintain accurate cost reports, forecasts, and financial projections
  • Review invoices, purchase orders, subcontractor billings, and expense documentation for accuracy and compliance
  • Analyze cost variances and provide recommendations to project management and leadership
  • Assist project managers with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
  • Monitor labor hours, equipment usage, materials, and subcontractor costs against project budgets
  • Support month-end closing processes and coordinate with accounting teams on project financial reporting
  • Maintain organized and accurate project cost records and supporting documentation
  • Assist in tracking change orders, contract values, and project revenue impacts
  • Ensure compliance with company financial procedures, policies, and contractual requirements
  • Participate in project meetings and provide financial updates regarding project performance
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and support continuous process improvements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience in project cost control, construction accounting, or project finance
  • Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, job costing, and financial reporting principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/project management software
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

Qualifications:

  • Experience in construction, industrial, or field operations environments
  • Familiarity with job cost software, and payroll/labor tracking systems
  • Experience supporting multi-site or multi-state projects
  • Knowledge of contracts, change orders, and project billing processes

Work Environment & Expectations:

  • Fast-paced project and field operations environment
  • May require periodic travel to project sites
  • Requires the ability to work collaboratively with field personnel, project management, and accounting teams
  • Ability to handle confidential financial and operational information with discretion
