As part of continued growth in Japan, they are seeking a Critical Operations Technician to support data centre operations at a major hyperscale facility. This position is ideal for a technically skilled professional with a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems who thrives in fast-paced, mission-critical environments.
About the Role
The Critical Operations Technician will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of data centre infrastructure. Working closely with the Lead Technician and client operations team, you will support day-to-day site monitoring, maintenance, and incident response activities to ensure optimal uptime and performance.
This role requires hands-on technical expertise, strong teamwork, and a proactive approach to problem-solving within a high-availability setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain a strong safety-first culture across all site operations.
- Support the Lead Technician in maintaining and improving site performance.
- Assist in building and equipment handover from project delivery to operations teams.
- Review and manage operational documentation including O&M manuals, SOOs, and as-built drawings.
- Conduct regular inspections and operational checks of electrical and mechanical systems.
- Operate, monitor, and maintain systems such as UPS, chillers, CRAC/CRAH, transformers, and power distribution equipment.
- Support preventive and predictive maintenance activities to maximise uptime.
- Participate in defect management, repair coordination, and follow-up reporting.
- Utilise BMS, EPMS, and CMMS systems for monitoring and maintenance tracking.
- Assist in asset and inventory management for parts and consumables.
- Respond to incidents, support escalation and perform root cause analysis reporting.
- Provide feedback to improve operational standards and best practices.
- Be available for on-call support, weekend, or holiday work as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or equivalent technical qualification in Engineering, Electrical, or Mechanical discipline.
- 1–3 years’ experience in a data centre or other mission-critical operations environment.
- Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems including UPS, transformers, PDUs, RPPs, chillers, STS, ATS, and fire suppression systems.
- Familiarity with local building codes and operational safety requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related data management software.
- Experience using site monitoring and control systems (BMS/EPMS).
- Excellent English communication skills; Japanese language skills are advantageous.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, nights, and public holidays.
