Data Centre Technician – Critical Environment – Farnborough

 

Our client, a leading provider of technical and facilities management services, is seeking a skilled Data Centre Technician to support operations within a mission-critical environment. This role is central to ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of engineering services, while maintaining compliance, performance, and customer satisfaction across a high-availability data centre.

 

The Role

The Data Centre Technician will work as part of an on-site engineering team, carrying out preventive and reactive maintenance, managing contractors, and supporting the smooth operation of critical mechanical and electrical systems. The successful candidate will also play a proactive role in identifying and escalating issues, responding to site emergencies, and ensuring adherence to safety and operational standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver both planned and reactive maintenance activities in line with SLAs.
  • Qualify and act as an Authorised Person (AP) within six months of joining.
  • Carry out isolations and reinstatement of electrical, gas, fire, and sprinkler systems where authorised.
  • Supervise subcontractors to ensure compliance with safety and security requirements.
  • Maintain audit readiness through accurate reporting, incident management, and documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and management teams at all times.

 

Candidate Profile

  • Formally trained in mechanical and electrical services maintenance, with a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in BS7671:2018 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations) or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working in a critical maintenance environment.
  • Strong understanding of permit-to-work systems and health & safety regulations.
  • Experience with UPS systems, BMS operation, standby generators, and electrical testing.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and work on PDUs and environmental monitoring systems.
  • Good IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook); CMMS experience desirable.

 

Desirable:

  • Health & Safety training (IOSH, NEBOSH).
  • HV Authorised Person (AP) status and ability to create switching plans.
  • Familiarity with ACOPs, building management systems, fire and environmental controls.
