Summary/Objective:

The Data Center Technician II plays a critical role in the installation, maintenance, and optimization of data center infrastructure, including structured cabling systems, server hardware, routers, and network components.

This position builds on foundational experience to perform complex technical work with minimal supervision—leading deployments, executing migrations, and supporting advanced troubleshooting. The Technician II ensures all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Compu Dynamics' quality standards and client requirements.

Installation & Deployment

  • Install, remove, and migrate customer hardware, including servers, routers, switches, and power systems.
  • Perform advanced rack and stack activities, overhead cable pathway installation, and structured cabling (Cat6 and fiber optic).
  • Terminate and test various types of copper and fiber optic cabling using appropriate tools, standards, and testing equipment.
  • Support or lead fusion splicing, fiber polishing, and patch panel terminations.
  • Execute hardware configuration and OS upgrades for standard equipment and devices.
  • Ensure labeling, documentation, and cable management meet company and client standards.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Perform independent diagnostics and resolution of complex hardware, cabling, or connectivity issues.
  • Execute network and hardware configuration commands in alignment with ITIL best practices.
  • Support large-scale migrations, moves, adds, and changes (MACs) with minimal oversight.
  • Maintain accurate records of assets, consumables, and completed work orders.
  • Identify and escalate potential hazards, risks, or performance issues proactively.

Operational Support & Safety

  • Demonstrate consistent adherence to company safety standards, PPE requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Operate company or personal vehicles safely in accordance with Compu Dynamics' safety standards and all local laws.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and vendors to remove project obstacles and ensure timely completion.
  • Represent Compu Dynamics professionally at client sites, maintaining strong communication and customer service.

Competencies:

  1. Strong communication, collaboration, and time management skills.
  2. Advanced understanding of structured cabling systems and media types (copper and fiber).
  3. Working knowledge of servers, SANs, and enterprise networking technologies.
  4. Ability to interpret complex floor plans, rack elevations, and network diagrams.
  5. Knowledge of ITIL principles and best practices for incident and change management.
  6. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and basic network management tools.
  7. Strong attention to detail, accountability, and adherence to quality standards.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This role has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance or training to junior technicians or subcontractors.

Work Environment:

This position operates primarily in data center and field environments, which may involve exposure to noise, confined spaces, and varying temperatures. Work may be required outside normal hours—including nights, weekends, or holidays—based on project needs. Standard PPE must be worn at all times.Travel up to 25% may be required.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, reach, push, pull, bend, kneel, and lift or move up to 50 pounds. Extended periods of standing or working overhead may be required.

Position Type:

This is a full-time position.

Required Education and Experience:

  1. Associate degree in an IT, electrical, or technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in a technical, cabling, or data center support role.
  3. Valid driver's license in good standing.

Education and Experience:

  1. Experience in large-scale enterprise or hyperscale data center environments.
  2. Experience with virtualized or cloud-based networking systems.
  3. OSHA 10 certification.
  4. Experience with Corning, CommScope, or comparable structured cabling products.

Compu Dynamics Pay Range$32—$46 USD
