Summary/Objective:
The Data Center Technician I is responsible for assisting with the installation, maintenance, and decommissioning of data center infrastructure, including copper and fiber cabling, server hardware, routers, and network components. This role supports structured cabling, equipment migrations, and troubleshooting under direct supervision while ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and in alignment with company and client standards. The Technician plays a key role in supporting Compu Dynamics' mission to deliver high-performance, reliable, and scalable data center infrastructure.

Installation & Deployment
- Assist in the installation and removal of customer hardware, including servers, routers, power supplies, and related IT equipment.
- Support the setup, labeling, and documentation of racks, structured cabling, and fiber pathways.
- Participate in the installation, termination, and testing of Cat6 copper and multi-strand fiber optic cabling while adhering to best installation practices and quality standards.
- Assist with rack and stack activities, overhead pathways, and migrations within the data center.
- Perform basic hardware upgrades and assist in installing or updating device operating systems for standard equipment.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Support troubleshooting activities for hardware, cabling, and basic network issues using ITIL best practices.
- Identify and communicate system faults or potential hazards to senior technicians or supervisors.
- Assist with maintaining accurate service records, documentation, and asset labeling.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and telecommunications testing equipment safely and effectively.
Operational Support & Safety
- Maintain professionalism with clients, vendors, and colleagues to ensure positive working relationships and high customer satisfaction.
- Follow company safety policies and procedures at all times.
- Operate company or personal vehicles safely in accordance with local laws and Compu Dynamics' safety standards.
- Participate in maintaining a safe and organized work environment by reporting hazards or risks promptly.
Competencies:
- Strong communication, teamwork, and time management skills.
- Basic understanding of data center systems, including servers, SANs, and network technologies.
- Foundational knowledge of structured cabling systems, including copper and fiber media.
- Ability to read and interpret basic technical drawings, floor plans, and schematics.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other productivity tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Supervisory Responsibility:
There are no supervisory responsibilities with this role.
Work Environment:
This role operates primarily in data center and field environments, which may involve exposure to noise, temperature variations, and confined spaces. Work may occur during nonstandard hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, based on customer needs. Standard PPE must be worn as required.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, climb, reach, push, pull, bend, kneel, and lift or move equipment up to 50 pounds. The role may also involve extended periods of standing and working overhead.
Position Type:
This is a full-time position.
Required Education and Experience:
- Associate degree in an IT or technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1–3 years of experience in a technical, cabling, or data center support role.
- Valid driver's license in good standing.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Experience in large-scale network operations or enterprise data center environments.
- Familiarity with virtualized networking and server systems.
- OSHA 10 certification.
- Experience reading and interpreting mechanical/electrical schematics.

Compu Dynamics Pay Range$25—$38 USD
