Job title: Data Center Technician I

Client: Tempest

Location: West Memphis, Arkansas (just outside Memphis city limits).

Duration: Minimum 6 months with potential for conversion to full time.

Shift/Hours: Standard shift: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, no OT currently expected.

Pay range: Target pay is $24–$26/hr. There is some flexibility above $26/hr for strong/rare candidates but keep submissions within a few dollars of the target range

 

 

Description:

The Data Center Technician I is an entry-level field position responsible for supporting the installation and deployment of Data Center Rack and install work related to telecommunications infrastructure. This role primarily involves cable installation activities including pulling fiber optic, coaxial, and CAT5e/CAT6 cabling within commercial, industrial, healthcare, hospitality, education, and large venue environments.

 

The Technician I works under the supervision of Lead Technicians, Foremen, and Project Managers to complete installation activities safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer specifications, manufacturer standards, and industry best practices.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pull, route, dress, and secure fiber optic, coaxial, and CAT5e/CAT6 cabling
  • Assist with installation of Data Center infrastructure including servers, mounts, brackets, cable trays, and support hardware
  • Install and label telecommunications cabling according to project drawings and standards
  • Support pathway installation including J-hooks, innerduct, conduit, and ladder rack systems
  • Assist with equipment staging and material organization at job sites
  • Perform basic cable testing and continuity verification under supervision
  • Read and follow construction drawings, floor plans, cable schedules, and installation documentation
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas
  • Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA requirements
  • Operate basic hand and power tools safely
  • Support site closeout activities including labeling, documentation, and punch list completion
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, customers, and team members
  • Travel to customer sites as required

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Previous telecommunications, construction, low-voltage, electrical, or cabling experience but not required
  • Basic understanding of cabling installation practices
  • Ability to work in commercial construction environments
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license

Technical Skills

  • Familiarity with fiber optic, coaxial, and structured cabling systems
  • Basic understanding of telecommunications installation practices
  • Ability to use hand tools, drills, fish tape, cable pullers, and ladders
  • Basic computer and mobile device proficiency for reporting and documentation
  • Understanding of cable labeling and routing standards

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, climb ladders, and work overhead for extended periods
  • Ability to work in active construction environments
  • Ability to work occasional nights, weekends, or extended hours based on project requirements
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight when required

Certifications:

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
  • RF Awareness
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Manufacturer or carrier safety training
  • Scissor lift and boom lift certification
