Data Center Electrical Engineer

Join a global operator delivering mission-critical data center operations and facilities management.

Our client is a leading provider of facilities management and operational services for mission-critical environments, supporting high-availability data centers across multiple regions.

With a strong focus on uptime, safety, and operational excellence, the organisation delivers 24/7 operations, maintenance, and technical services for hyperscale and enterprise data centre clients.

As part of continued operational growth, they are seeking a Data Centre Electrical Engineer to oversee the operation and maintenance of critical electrical infrastructure within a live data center environment.

About the Role

The Data Centre Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and performance of all medium- and low-voltage electrical systems supporting the facility. Reporting to the Data Centre Facilities Manager, you will lead electrical technicians, manage preventive and corrective maintenance activities, and ensure uninterrupted power delivery to critical IT loads.

This is a hands-on operational role, ideal for an engineer with strong experience in facilities management, critical environments, and live data center operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operation and maintenance of MV and LV electrical systems including switchgear, transformers, UPS, generators, PDUs, and distribution boards.
  • Ensure continuous power availability and redundancy in line with Tier standards and client SLAs.
  • Monitor electrical loads, power quality, alarms, and system performance.
  • Lead and supervise electrical technicians during routine operations and maintenance activities.
  • Assign work orders, manage shift activities, and ensure adherence to safety procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and on-the-job training to site staff.
  • Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules for all electrical assets.
  • Respond to electrical faults, incidents, and alarms, coordinating corrective actions efficiently.
  • Support root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure full compliance with local electrical codes, statutory regulations, and company policies.
  • Enforce safety procedures including permit-to-work, lockout/tagout, and risk assessments.
  • Conduct safety inspections and support audits.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including single-line diagrams, load studies, test results, and maintenance records.
  • Prepare operational reports on system performance, incidents, and improvement plans.
  • Support commissioning, upgrades, and minor electrical projects within live environments.
  • Coordinate with vendors and service providers for maintenance and specialist works.
  • Assist facilities management with capacity planning, reliability improvements, and lifecycle management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 3–5+ years’ experience in electrical operations within data centers, critical facilities, or mission-critical environments.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of MV and LV systems, UPS, generators, and power distribution.
  • Experience working within facilities management or O&M service delivery models.
  • Familiarity with BMS, EPMS, and Electrical SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge of Tier standards, redundancy concepts, and uptime-driven operations.
  • Data center certifications (e.g. CDCP, CDFOM) are advantageous but not essential.

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to join a professional facilities management organisation operating at the heart of mission-critical infrastructure. You will take ownership of electrical reliability within a live data center, lead on-site technical teams, and play a key role in maintaining uptime for business-critical digital services.
