Data Centre Technician – Global Data Infrastructure Leader

As part of their continued expansion in Japan, they are seeking an experienced Data Centre Technician to join the site operations team, supporting infrastructure reliability and ensuring uninterrupted service delivery for a global technology client.

 

About the Role

The Data Centre Technician will be responsible for the maintenance, operation, and monitoring of all mechanical and electrical infrastructure within the facility. You’ll play a hands-on role in ensuring optimal performance of critical systems, coordinating maintenance activities, and supporting continuous improvement of operational processes.

 

Working within a team of 10, this position requires strong technical understanding, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and uptime.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance tasks on high- and low-voltage electrical systems, HVAC, and associated mechanical infrastructure.
  • Ensure all maintenance and operational activities are carried out safely and in compliance with company and client standards.
  • Monitor building systems via BMS and respond promptly to alarms and abnormal conditions.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, monitor power capacity, and record readings from UPS, PDU, and other key electrical systems.
  • Investigate faults and identify root causes, implementing corrective actions effectively.
  • Support equipment installation and asset data collection as required.
  • Prepare timely service and incident reports to maintain accurate operational documentation.
  • Supervise and coordinate third-party vendors to ensure quality maintenance and repair works.
  • Participate in on-call and emergency response rosters as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with shift leaders and management to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Act as a technical point of contact during cross-functional escalations and major incidents.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Technical qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Building Services Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience maintaining temperature-controlled or mission-critical environments.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems used in data centres, including feeders, transformers, generators, UPS, ATS/STS, chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, and fire suppression systems.
  • Knowledge of safety codes, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and maintenance schedules.
  • Proficiency with CMMS, BMS, and workflow management tools.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage client relationships effectively.
  • Business-level English; Japanese language skills preferred.
