Job Title: Data Center Technician

Location: Chantilly, VA

Structure: Contract-to-Hire (6 months)

Pay: 22/hr

Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Data Center Technician with strong mechanical aptitude and foundational hardware knowledge to support break/fix operations within a fast-paced environment. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about computer hardware, learns quickly, and can work independently while earning trust from the broader team.

You will be responsible for diagnosing and resolving hardware-related issues, correcting ticketing errors, and ensuring accurate documentation of steps taken. This position offers the opportunity to grow into a full-time role for strong performers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform regular break/fix work on servers and related data center hardware.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware failures, ticketing errors, and incomplete or missing information.
  • Conduct basic technical testing, including ISO/isolation testing and hardware diagnostics.
  • Ensure all work is appropriately logged and follows established processes.
  • Work independently while communicating effectively with the broader operations team.
  • Follow safety standards, internal procedures, and data center best practices.

Background:

  • Strong hands-on experience with computer hardware—Geek Squad, PC building, or similar backgrounds strongly encouraged.
  • Solid baseline understanding of computer components, system assembly, and technical fundamentals.
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to feedback, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong judgment and reliability; earns trust rapidly.
  • Comfortable receiving and responding to constructive feedback.
  • Candidates newer to the data center world to bring fresh perspectives and adaptability.

Qualifications

  • 1–3+ years of hands-on hardware or mechanical experience (professional or personal).
  • Experience with troubleshooting and basic hardware diagnostics.
  • Familiarity with isolation testing and technical procedures is a plus.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a physically active environment (lifting, standing, navigating data center aisles).
