About the Role

My client are looking for an experienced Design Manager to take a leading role in the delivery of a major hyperscale data centre project in Berlin. This is a unique opportunity to be part of one of Europe’s most significant digital infrastructure developments, working at the forefront of innovation, technology, and sustainability.

As the Design Manager, you will be responsible for driving the design process from concept through to handover, coordinating a diverse team of architects, engineers, and specialist consultants. You’ll ensure that all design solutions meet the project’s technical, quality, and programme requirements while maintaining alignment with client expectations and construction delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the multidisciplinary design process for a large-scale data centre project.
• Manage all design deliverables to meet programme milestones and cost targets.
• Oversee design coordination between architecture, civil, structural, and MEP disciplines.
• Ensure all designs comply with local regulations, international standards, and client specifications.
• Collaborate closely with construction, procurement, and commissioning teams to ensure buildability and seamless design integration.
• Manage design risks, changes, and approvals throughout all project stages.
• Facilitate design workshops and coordination meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors.
• Promote innovation, sustainability, and technical excellence in all aspects of design delivery.

Skills and Experience

• Degree-qualified in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management (or equivalent).
• Proven experience as a Design Manager or Senior Design Coordinator on large, technically complex projects.
• Experience in data centre, pharmaceutical, industrial, or mission-critical projects highly advantageous.
• Strong understanding of MEP systems, building services integration, and technical infrastructure.
• Familiarity with German building regulations (HOAI, DIN standards) and permitting processes beneficial.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Fluency in English is essential; German skills are a strong advantage.
• Proficiency with BIM tools and digital design management processes desirable.
