This is a senior commercial finance leadership role within a high‑growth, private‑equity‑backed SME operating in the digital infrastructure space. The role is heavily weighted towards commercial finance, including pricing, projects, deal support, modelling and business partnering.
The Director of Commercial Finance will work closely with the CFO and senior commercial stakeholders, PE investors, supporting major commercial decisions, complex bids, and long‑term infrastructure projects – including a key business partner to sales. The role plays a key part in balancing commercial opportunity with robust financial discipline in a fast‑moving organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead all commercial finance activity, with a primary focus on pricing, deal evaluation, and financial modelling
- Own pricing strategy and deal modelling for major customer contracts and infrastructure projects
- Partner closely with sales and commercial teams, acting as a trusted advisor on deal structure and commercial economics
- Develop and review detailed financial models to support large‑scale, long‑term contracts and investment decisions
- Support the business with sales commission modelling and incentive structure analysis
- Provide financial input into major bids and tenders, including infrastructure and rollout projects
- Analyse and evaluate new commercial opportunities proposed by customers or partners
- Present clear, insightful financial analysis and recommendations to senior leadership
- Support private equity investors with ad‑hoc commercial analysis and investment‑related requests as required
- Manage and develop a small commercial finance team, including highly analytical modelling capability
- Ensure ongoing commercial finance support to maintain pipeline visibility and deal quality
Key Requirements:
- Proven commercial finance leadership experience as a qualified accountant, ideally within a high‑growth SME (£15m–£50m revenue range and upwards)
- Strong background in pricing, commercial modelling, and deal economics
- Advanced modeller with the ability to build and review complex financial models
- Demonstrated experience business partnering with sales teams in a B2B or project‑driven environment
- Exposure to private‑equity‑backed businesses is desirable but not essential
- Background in B2B environments essential
- Experience within large corporates is less suitable unless combined with time spent in smaller, fast‑moving organisations
