Summary of Duties:

The Director Network Engineering serves as the lead for the networking organization that is responsible for network design, deployment and operation. They own the operational monitoring as well as the configuration and administration of all Purple network systems. In addition to networks, the Director Network Engineering works closely with all members of the IT Team. A working knowledge of storage, operating systems, and application connectivity and communications requirements will be required. They will serve as a senior member of the technology team and will mentor junior team members. This position provides opportunities to contribute to the engineering of new systems and re-engineering of old ones.

Director of Network Engineering Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the network architecture and function provides the capabilities needed to meet identified business needs
  • Responsible for schedule, cost and quality of networking solutions
  • Work to align resources with project needs
  • Makes recommendations regarding operational improvements
  • Maintenance and support of data center operations, LAN/WAN architecture, server and network hardware, software, and applications
  • Provide team leadership to the Network team
  • Meet regularly with the IT and Network Manager to go over team activities
  • Primary responsibility to develop, implement and maintain network infrastructure to support a high availability video solution and associated business systems
  • Provide ongoing review of capacity requirements in order to align with budget planning
  • Provide network design, security analysis/design and implementation
  • Definition and coordination of standards, project management, and technology research
  • Ensures up-to-date system and network documentation and inventories
  • Manage all related vendor support contracts for hardware, software, connectivity, etc
  • Work in concert with software and hardware vendors for problem resolution
  • Ensure integrity and availability of data through continuous assessment of data backup operations
  • Provide advance notification of all planned system and network outages and set realistic expectations on availability
  • Coordinate and communicate closely with management and help desk during all unplanned outages

Director of Network Engineering Qualifications / Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 10+ years network engineering background
  • 5+ years Network team management
  • 5+ years of Cisco network experience
  • Project management skills
  • Excellent knowledge of appropriate network technologies and network applications such as TCP/IP, LAN/WAN setup, routing protocols e.g. BGP, wireless designs, and routing
  • Knowledge of SIP technology
  • Knowledge of server and storage communications requirements
  • Cisco Certified – CCNP or CCSP required, excellent knowledge of Cisco routers, switches and firewalls
  • Willingness to learn ASL and deaf community
  • Regulated industries work such as telecommunications, finance or related businesses
  • Working in a Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) environment and using related tools
  • Use of version control (SVN or other tools/methodologies)
  • Defining and utilizing data warehouses and dynamic reporting (including but not limited to data modeling, ETL architectures, OLAP, drillable reports, star/snowflake schemas, etc.)
  • Dealing with database performance and scaling issues
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases like MongoDB, Cassandra, and/or CouchDB
  • Using of SCRUM and Agile methodologies for iterative software development
  • Willingness to employ creative thinking to solve problems

Work environment:

Employees may experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time:

  • Sitting, standing and walking (95-100%)
  • Keyboarding (40-60%)
  • Viewing computer monitor, videophone, and cell phone (40-60%)
  • Lifting computers and other equipment.
  • Position may require some travel.
