Director of Operations - Commercial & Industrial Mechanical Construction (HVAC, Piping & Plumbing) - Indianapolis, IN

Gryphon Oakwood is partnering with a leading mechanical contractor to find a Director of Operations to oversee commercial and industrial construction operations across HVAC, piping, plumbing, and mechanical systems projects.

This executive leadership role will be responsible for driving operational excellence, project performance, workforce development, safety, profitability, and client satisfaction across a growing portfolio of work. Their key markets being manufacturing, data centers, pharmaceuticals and higher education.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight for all mechanical construction operations.
• Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.
• Lead and mentor Project Managers, Superintendents, and Operations teams.
• Drive labor productivity, operational efficiency, and financial performance.
• Support strategic planning, workforce forecasting, and resource allocation.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and industry partners.
• Champion a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to support company growth objectives.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of leadership experience within commercial and industrial mechanical construction.
• Strong background in HVAC, piping, plumbing, and mechanical systems projects.
• Proven experience managing multiple projects, teams, and operational functions.
• Demonstrated success in improving project performance, profitability, and team effectiveness.
• Strong financial, operational, and strategic leadership skills.
• Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving abilities.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field .
