Role Overview

We are seeking an Electrical Commissioning Field Engineer to support a large-scale, high-tech advanced manufacturing facility in the Bay Area. This role partners closely with Construction Managers, Mechanical/Process Commissioning Engineers, trade partners, and vendors to drive electrical system readiness from pre-construction through construction, testing, and turnover.

This is a highly field-facing role supporting high-voltage and medium-voltage electrical systems in a mission-critical environment. The ideal candidate is organized, technically strong, and comfortable working cross-functionally in fast-paced construction and commissioning phases. You’ll play a key role in ensuring electrical systems are safely installed, tested, documented, and handed over to the client.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Construction / Planning

  • Review Electrical (High Voltage /Medium Voltage) systems and equipment from latest IFC drawing packages.
  • Develop comprehensive Electrical equipment lists that will be uploaded into the commissioning software database (Hexagon Smart Completions).
  • Work with Mechanical and Process Commissioning Engineers to develop system/equipment predecessor matrix’s.
  • Work with CM’s to verify accuracy of system/equipment (Parent/Child) relationships.
  • Work with Schedulers to implement (Parent/Child) relationships in the P6 Schedule.
  • Develop (ASHRAE Cx - Level 2) Construction Installation Checklists for Electrical (HV/MV) systems and equipment.
  • Develop (ASHRAE Cx – Level 3) “OAT” Operational Acceptance Testing Checklists for Electrical (HV/MV) systems and equipment.
  • Interface with vendors for pre-startup/startup requirements.
  • Interface with vendors for O&M manuals and associated turnover documentation.
  • Interface with electrical subcontractors to align on commissioning deliverables during the on-boarding process.
  • Learn how to operate and navigate Hexagon Smart Completions.
  • Assist in Hexagon Smart Completions training for Electrical Subcontractors.
  • Work with CM’s to develop Early Run/Blowdown Planning.

Construction

  • Attend required commissioning meetings.
  • Verify all forms and files are being uploaded into Hexagon Smart completions.
  • Tracking of Punchlist Items: Non-Compliance Reports (NCRs); DWNs (Defective work notices), NGI (Non – Gating issue) and CORs (Construction Observation Reports) for assigned discipline in Hexagon Smart Completions.
  • Tracking of Construction Complete Checklists of Electrical Systems/Equipment.
  • Ensuring Construction Completes are meeting schedule.
  • Preparing for OAT’s of Electrical Equipment and ensuring all stakeholders are aware of upcoming needs.
  • Assist CM’s with the scheduling of DV (Design Verification), EHS pre and post walks and signoffs.
  • Perform walkdowns of owned systems.

Commissioning

  • Tracking of OAT’s and Green Tag’s.
  • Overseeing OAT’s with subcontractors and vendors.
  • Verifying Trade CC checklists and QA/QC checklists are completed in smart completions.
  • Gathering of startup documentation.
  • Driving punch list closure during the OAT phase.
  • Signing off on OAT checklists.
  • Coordinating walkdowns with 3rd party contractors for upcoming walkdowns.
  • Support and provide technical knowledge and solving skills as commissioning SME (Subject Matter Expert).
  • Provide system training to the client for smooth transition and handover

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in electrical construction, commissioning, QA/QC, or turnover (industrial, mission-critical, semiconductor, data center, or manufacturing environments )
  • Hands-on experience with MV/HV electrical systems (switchgear, transformers, feeders, grounding, protective relays, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of IFC drawings, single-lines, P&IDs, and system relationships
  • Experience supporting system turnover, pre-commissioning, and OAT activities
  • Comfortable working in commissioning software platforms (Hexagon Smart Completions, EXTO, Procore, or similar)
  • Field-oriented, organized, and detail-driven
  • Strong communication skills with subs, vendors, and internal teams

Nice to Have:

  • Prior semiconductor or mission-critical project experience
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE commissioning levels (Level 2 / Level 3)
  • Experience supporting P6 schedule coordination
  • Electrical trade background or licensed electrician
  • Startup/energization experience with MV/HV equipment
