Design Consultancy Client of Blueprints is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to take a senior, hands-on role supporting major UK data centre projects.
This is a 6-month contract, offering home-based design delivery, flexible site attendance, and involvement in large-scale, mission-critical developments - including a phased 240MW data centre programme.
The Opportunity
This role is ideal for a senior or lead-level Electrical Design Engineer who enjoys autonomy, technical ownership, and direct client interaction.
You will support:
A phased 240MW Data Centre development (Northwest)
Data Centre Due Diligence projects (Northeast)The emphasis is on practical, deliverable electrical design, not management overhead.
What you'll be doing
Producing hands-on electrical designs for large-scale data centre projects
Ensuring designs comply with current regulations, standards, and building codes
Preparing and maintaining accurate technical reports and design documentation
Acting as a client-facing technical lead, supporting design decisions and reviews
Liaising with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and contractors to ensure efficient project deliveryProviding ongoing support during the construction phase, including:
Reviewing contractor submissions
Resolving design queries
Attending site visits and inspections
Implementing cost-effective and energy-efficient design solutions, considering:
Power usage
Lighting
Energy conservation
Control systems
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or a related discipline, preferable with a chartered engineer status, or actively working towards achieving one.
Profound experience as an Electrical Design Engineer, or a similar position, developing detailed designs for a range of commercial, industrial, residential, and retail projects.
Proficiency in the use of relevant software tools, such as Amtech, Dialux, Relux and AutoCAD, with a technical understanding of Microsoft Office resources.
Strong acknowledgment of IES, SBEM and Part L regulations and principles, with an understanding current industry standards, codes, and legislation.
Effective communication and collaboration skills, with an ability to work both independently and as a part of a team, and a strong attention to detail.
Working arrangement
Primarily home-based design role
Occasional site visits across the Northwest and Northeast
Site attendance can be flexed around candidate availability and preference
Standard working week: 37.5 hours
