Compensation: $110,000–$185,000 base salary, depending on level and experience

Role Overview

As an Electrical Validation Engineer on the Commissioning Validation team, you will validate electrical infrastructure readiness for large-scale data center deployments, expansions, and operational handoffs. This role ensures that power distribution systems, standby , UPS systems, EPMS visibility, electrical commissioning evidence, energization readiness, and turnover documentation are complete, accurate, tested, and ready for safe day-one operations.

You will partner with Site Deployment, Commissioning, Electrical Engineering, Construction, Mechanical Engineering, BMS/Controls, Facilities Operations, Reliability, Safety, Security, vendors, utilities, and site leadership to verify that deployed electrical systems meet design intent, commissioning requirements, site readiness expectations, safety requirements, and operational handoff standards.

This is not a general electrical engineering role. It is a commissioning validation role focused on evidence-based readiness, field execution judgment, risk identification, issue closure, and disciplined handoff for large-scale mission-critical data center projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Validate electrical readiness for new data centers, expansions, retrofit programs, infrastructure readiness milestones, energization activities, and operational transition activities.
  • Review electrical commissioning evidence, pre-functional and functional test records, integrated systems testing results, energization checklists, load bank test records, protective device settings, one-line updates, punch lists, and turnover packages.
  • Verify readiness of critical electrical infrastructure, including utility feeds, medium-voltage and low-voltage switchgear, transformers, generators, fuel system interfaces, UPS systems, batteries, STS/ATS equipment, PDUs, RPPs, busway, grounding, lighting, and EPMS monitoring.
  • Confirm that electrical systems have been validated against design intent, redundancy requirements, sequences of operations, failure-mode expectations, maintainability needs, and operational acceptance criteria.
  • Partner with commissioning agents, construction teams, electrical vendors, engineering, controls teams, utilities, and site operations to document, prioritize, and resolve electrical validation findings.
  • Support integrated systems testing, failure-mode testing, generator and UPS testing, load bank activities, transfer testing, alarm validation, and abnormal-condition readiness reviews.
  • Validate that EPMS/BMS visibility, alarms, meter data, breaker status, power quality indicators, trends, and escalation paths support electrical operations and troubleshooting needs.
  • Track electrical validation findings, readiness risks, dependencies, corrective actions, exceptions, and owner-based action plans using approved deployment tracking tools.
  • Translate electrical validation requirements into clear checklists, acceptance criteria, readiness dashboards, issue logs, risk summaries, and leadership status reports.
  • Support turnover readiness by validating as-built documentation, one-lines, equipment records, O&M manuals, maintenance prerequisites, spares or support requirements, training needs, and operational handoff materials.
  • Coordinate validation activities with safety requirements, energized work controls, access controls, commissioning schedules, maintenance windows, change management, security constraints, and live-site operating conditions.
  • Escalate unresolved electrical risks that may affect safety, capacity, redundancy, reliability, customer commitments, energization milestones, or day-one operational readiness.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in electrical validation, commissioning, facilities engineering, data center operations, electrical construction support, critical facilities, power systems, or mission-critical infrastructure delivery; IC3 candidates may bring 3+ years with strong technical depth and field execution experience.
  • Experience validating electrical systems in data centers, industrial facilities, colocation environments, utilities, manufacturing, healthcare, aviation, or other high-availability environments.
  • Working knowledge of data center power distribution, redundancy, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, transformers, EPMS, grounding, energization practices, load bank testing, protective device coordination, and commissioning practices.
  • Experience reviewing commissioning scripts, test records, integrated systems test evidence, energization documentation, issue logs, design documents, one-lines, as-builts, O&M manuals, and turnover packages.
  • Ability to identify electrical readiness gaps, assess operational or safety risk, and translate findings into action plans, acceptance decisions, and leadership-ready summaries.
  • Strong understanding of coordination points across electrical, mechanical, controls/BMS, construction, safety, utilities, and operations teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, construction management, facilities management, operations, or equivalent practical experience .

  • Strong validation discipline across readiness criteria, evidence review, issue tracking, energization support, punch-list closure, and risk escalation.
  • Technical judgment to evaluate electrical system readiness, redundancy, maintainability, commissioning completeness, safety controls, and operational supportability.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including concise readiness summaries, risk reports, escalation notes, and executive-level updates.
  • Ability to influence commissioning, construction, engineering, vendors, utilities, and operations partners without direct authority.
  • High attention to detail in one-lines, equipment data, test evidence, alarm matrices, meter data, breaker status, sequence validation, and turnover records.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-moving site deployment environments with schedule pressure, changing dependencies, and operational constraints.
  • Continuous improvement mindset focused on repeatable validation standards, scalable handoff practices, and predictable deployment outcomes.

Skills / Certifications

  • Experience with hyperscale data centers, cloud infrastructure, colocation, critical facilities, utilities, or large-scale commissioning programs.
  • Familiarity with EPMS, BMS, SCADA, CMMS, DCIM, commissioning platforms, ticketing systems, Smartsheet, Primavera, MS Project, Jira, ServiceNow, or similar deployment tracking tools.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC) concepts, NFPA 70E awareness, lockout/tagout, arc flash awareness, energized work planning, load bank testing, protective relaying, grounding, and operational readiness practices.
  • Certifications or training in commissioning, electrical systems, data center operations, project management, OSHA, Lean, Six Sigma, quality management, or safety/compliance frameworks.
  • Experience developing electrical validation checklists, acceptance criteria, dashboard reporting, readiness playbooks, energization readiness packages, or turnover standards.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

This is an onsite role supporting the client's data center delivery portfolio. The position may be assigned to any active or planned program site based on business need, project phase, deployment priorities, and capacity delivery requirements. Site assignments may change over time as programs progress from planning through construction, commissioning, deployment, turnover, and operational handoff.

The role requires regular onsite presence to participate in field reviews, readiness meetings, deployment activities, commissioning and validation milestones, vendor coordination, issue resolution, and operational handoff support. Travel or temporary assignment to other program sites may be required to support schedule-critical milestones, escalations, lessons learned, or portfolio priorities.

Site visits may involve walking large facilities, standing for extended periods, using stairs, entering white-space or infrastructure areas, coordinating with vendor teams, and following all site safety, PPE, security, and access-control requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation.
