Compensation: $110,000 –$185,000 base salary, depending on level and experience

Role Overview
As a Mechanical Validation Engineer on the Commissioning Validation team, you will validate mechanical infrastructure readiness for large-scale data center deployments, expansions, and operational handoffs. This role ensures that cooling systems, mechanical equipment, hydronic systems, airflow management, controls interfaces, commissioning evidence, and turnover documentation are complete, accurate, tested, and ready for safe day-one operations.
You will partner with Site Deployment, Commissioning, Mechanical Engineering, Construction, Controls/BMS, Electrical Engineering, Facilities Operations, Reliability, Safety, vendors, and site leadership to verify that deployed mechanical systems are aligned to design intent, commissioning results, site readiness requirements, operational procedures, and handoff standards.
This is not a general mechanical engineering role. It is a commissioning validation role focused on field readiness, evidence review, operational supportability, risk identification, and disciplined handoff for large-scale mission-critical data center projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Validate mechanical readiness for new data centers, expansions, retrofit programs, infrastructure readiness milestones, and operational transition activities.
- Review mechanical commissioning evidence, functional performance test results, integrated systems testing records, balancing reports, equipment start-up records, punch lists, and turnover packages.
- Verify readiness of critical cooling infrastructure, including chillers, pumps, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units, air handlers, heat exchangers, valves, piping systems, filtration, water treatment interfaces, containment, and airflow management systems.
- Confirm that mechanical systems have been validated against design intent, sequences of operations, redundancy requirements, maintainability expectations, and operational handoff criteria.
- Partner with commissioning agents, construction teams, mechanical vendors, engineering, controls teams, and site operations to document, prioritize, and resolve mechanical validation findings.
- Support integrated systems testing, failure-mode testing, load bank or thermal validation activities, redundancy demonstrations, and abnormal-condition readiness reviews.
- Validate that BMS/controls visibility, alarms, trends, setpoints, and equipment status indicators support mechanical operations and troubleshooting needs.
- Track mechanical validation findings, readiness risks, dependencies, corrective actions, exceptions, and owner-based action plans using approved deployment tracking tools.
- Translate mechanical validation requirements into clear checklists, acceptance criteria, readiness dashboards, issue logs, and leadership status summaries.
- Support turnover readiness by validating as-built documentation, O&M manuals, equipment data, maintenance prerequisites, spares or support requirements, training needs, and operational handoff materials.
- Coordinate validation work with access controls, safety requirements, maintenance windows, commissioning schedules, change management, security constraints, and live-site operating conditions.
- Escalate unresolved mechanical risks that may affect safety, capacity, redundancy, reliability, customer commitments, or day-one operational readiness.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical validation, commissioning, facilities engineering, data center operations, construction support, critical facilities, HVAC operations, or mission-critical infrastructure delivery; IC3 candidates may bring 3+ years with strong technical depth and field execution experience.
- Experience validating mechanical systems in data centers, industrial facilities, colocation environments, utilities, manufacturing, healthcare, aviation, or other high-availability environments.
- Working knowledge of data center cooling systems, hydronic systems, airflow management, mechanical redundancy, thermal performance, control sequences, maintenance requirements, and commissioning practices.
- Experience reviewing commissioning scripts, functional test records, integrated systems test evidence, balancing reports, issue logs, design documents, as-builts, O&M manuals, and turnover packages.
- Ability to identify mechanical readiness gaps, assess operational risk, and translate findings into action plans, acceptance decisions, and leadership-ready summaries.
- Strong understanding of coordination points across mechanical, controls/BMS, electrical, construction, safety, and operations teams.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, construction management, facilities management, operations, or equivalent practical experience .

- Strong validation discipline across readiness criteria, evidence review, issue tracking, field verification, punch-list closure, and risk escalation.
- Technical judgment to evaluate mechanical system readiness, redundancy, maintainability, commissioning completeness, and operational supportability.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including concise readiness summaries, risk reports, escalation notes, and executive-level updates.
- Ability to influence commissioning, construction, engineering, vendors, and operations partners without direct authority.
- High attention to detail in mechanical equipment data, system diagrams, test evidence, alarms, setpoints, trends, sequencing, and turnover records.
- Ability to work effectively in fast-moving site deployment environments with schedule pressure, changing dependencies, and operational constraints.
- Continuous improvement mindset focused on repeatable validation standards, scalable handoff practices, and predictable deployment outcomes.
Skills / Certifications
- Experience with hyperscale data centers, cloud infrastructure, colocation, critical facilities, or large-scale commissioning programs.
- Familiarity with BMS, CMMS, DCIM, commissioning platforms, ticketing systems, Smartsheet, Primavera, MS Project, Jira, ServiceNow, or similar deployment tracking tools.
- Knowledge of ASHRAE guidance, thermal testing, airflow management, hydronic balancing, water treatment coordination, reliability-centered maintenance, and operational readiness practices.
- Certifications or training in commissioning, mechanical systems, data center operations, project management, OSHA, Lean, Six Sigma, or quality management.
- Experience developing mechanical validation checklists, acceptance criteria, dashboard reporting, readiness playbooks, or turnover standards.

Work Environment / Physical Demands
This is an onsite role supporting the client's data center delivery portfolio. The position may be assigned to any active or planned program site based on business need, project phase, deployment priorities, and capacity delivery requirements. Site assignments may change over time as programs progress from planning through construction, commissioning, deployment, turnover, and operational handoff.
The role requires regular onsite presence to participate in field reviews, readiness meetings, deployment activities, commissioning and validation milestones, vendor coordination, issue resolution, and operational handoff support. Travel or temporary assignment to other program sites may be required to support schedule-critical milestones, escalations, lessons learned, or portfolio priorities.
Site visits may involve walking large facilities, standing for extended periods, using stairs, entering white-space or infrastructure areas, coordinating with vendor teams, and following all site safety, PPE, security, and access-control requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation.
