Job Title: Field Service Technician — Data Media Destruction

Compensation: $65,000 – $80,000/year (DOE)
Job Summary
The Field Service Technician supports Phiston Technologies’ Preventive Maintenance Inspection (PMI) program by operating and maintaining high-security media destruction equipment across multiple client data center sites in Northern Virginia. This role ensures that all media destruction activities meet strict security, compliance, and operational standards while maintaining equipment reliability and accurate service documentation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled Preventive Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) on media destruction equipment across multiple client sites in the Northern Virginia region.
- Operate media destruction equipment according to Phiston specifications and client security protocols.
- Monitor inventory levels and manage replenishment of consumables required for equipment operation.
- Complete detailed post-service reports documenting equipment performance, processed volumes, and any service issues.
- Ensure all work complies with client data security policies, NIST 800-88 standards, and chain-of-custody requirements.
- Coordinate site access and maintain strong working relationships with client data center staff.
- Identify, document, and escalate equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the Program Manager.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in field service, equipment maintenance, or data center operations.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate and troubleshoot industrial equipment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance for access to multiple client facilities.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel between sites.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to document work accurately and operate independently.
Qualifications
- Experience with media destruction, degaussing, or data sanitization equipment.
- Familiarity with data center security protocols and access control procedures.
- Knowledge of NIST 800-88 or DoD 5220.22-M data destruction standards.
- CompTIA A+, Security+, or equivalent technical certification .
