I'm recruiting for a HV Design Engineer to work on a long contract outside of IR35 to work with a leading international engineering and consulting group. They work in close partnership with clients to solve complex challenges around the movement of people, goods, and services-delivering innovative, resilient infrastructure solutions. \n\nWith a strong focus on future-ready design, they are at the forefront of developing smarter, more efficient infrastructure that responds to evolving technologies, changing behaviours, and increasing demand.
Their approach puts people at the heart of design, combining technical excellence with a collaborative, forward-thinking culture.\n\nWith ambitious growth plans in the UK, this is an excellent time to join the business as they continue to expand their footprint and reputation across the energy and infrastructure sectors.\n\nHybrid working based out of offices in either London, Birmingham, York, Manchester, Edinburgh or Reading.\n\nThey are seeking a Principal or Senior HV Design Engineer to join their growing Energy team on a long-term contract basis, operating outside IR35. This role will suit an ambitious engineer with strong technical capability, commercial awareness, and the ability to contribute within a high-performing, multidisciplinary environment.\n\nYou'll play a key role in delivering a wide range of HV projects across the UK, working on systems up to 132kV and 400kV.\n\nProjects include:\n\nData centres\nHVDC and interconnectors\nWind farms\nSubstations\nBattery Energy Storage (BESS)\nProtection & control systems\nLVAC and FEED studies\nNetwork reinforcement and reconnection schemes \n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nDeliver HV system design (concept through to detailed design and review)\nProvide technical leadership and support across HV engineering activities\nPrepare technical specifications for plant, equipment, and cable routing\nProduce tender documentation, reports, and design deliverables\nCarry out technical studies (e.g. EMF, EMC, induced voltage calculations)\nEnsure effective coordination with multidisciplinary teams\nLead and participate in design reviews and verification processes\nEnsure compliance with CDM regulations, standards, and best practice\nSupport site activities including supervision and technical queries\nMaintain strong working relationships with clients, stakeholders, and supply chain \n\nRequirements\n\nDegree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering\nProven experience in HV design (ideally up to 132kV / 400kV)\nBackground within consultancy, contractor, or utility environments\nStrong understanding of UK standards (NGET, NETS, BS7671 etc.)\nExperience producing technical specifications and design documentation\nChartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards, with IET or CIBSE \n\nIf you're looking for a secure, long-term contract outside IR35, working on technically challenging, high-value infrastructure projects within a business investing heavily in UK growth, this is a strong opportunity to step into a key role with real influence.\n\nWe are an equal opportunity employer and value in our company.
