Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Newcasatle

Role: Infrastructure Engineer (On-Prem & Hybrid)

Location: Newcastle

In this role you are the "boots on the ground" technical expert. You will design, rack, configure, and automate physical and virtual infrastructure within client-owned data centres. You bridge the gap between "tin" (hardware) and modern automation.

Core Technical Stack

  • Virtualisation: Expert-level VMware vSphere/ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Windows Server
  • Storage (SAN/NAS): Managing and zoning NetApp, Dell EMC, or Pure Storage (iSCSI, Fibre Channel).
  • Compute: Hands-on with HPE ProLiant, Dell PowerEdge, or Cisco UCS blade servers.
  • Networking: L2/L3 switching, VLANs, and Firewalls (Cisco ASA/Firepower, Fortinet, or Palo Alto).
  • Backups: Designing recovery tiers using Veeam, Commvault, or Cohesity.
  • Automation: Using Ansible or PowerShell to manage "Bare Metal" and VM templates.

Key Deliverables

  1. Hardware Lifecycle: Leading "Lift & Shift" projects, server refreshes, and firmware patching across diverse hardware estates.
  2. Private Cloud Build: Deploying software-defined data centres (SDDC) using tools like VMware vSAN or NSX.
  3. Active Directory & : Managing complex UK-based domains, Group Policy (GPO), and local DNS/DHCP.
  4. Disaster Recovery (DR): Building off-site replication and "Cold/Warm" site recovery procedures.

Skillset:

Senior Hands-on Infrastructure Experience

We are looking for an engineer who has moved beyond simple administration and can lead the end-to-end lifecycle of complex environments.

Academic Background

  • Russell Group University (): You likely hold a 2:1 or 1st Class degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Mathematics, or a related STEM subject from a leading UK research institution.
