Position Overview
The Network Engineer’s role is to ensure the stable and secure operation of the company’s computer networks and servers across all locations. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network and server hardware, software, and communication links. The Network Engineer also monitors systems proactively for performance, reliability, and security, ensuring minimal downtime across approximately 10–15 distributed offices and data centers. This position plays a key role in ongoing enterprise network upgrades and infrastructure projects.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and support enterprise LAN/WAN infrastructure, including routing, switching, firewalls, wireless, and VPN connectivity between multiple remote offices.
- Perform network design, capacity planning, and topology documentation using Visio or equivalent tools.
- Install, configure, and maintain network hardware such as Cisco routers, switches, access points, and firewalls (Cisco ASA, Meraki, or Fortinet).
- Configure and manage core network services such as DHCP, DNS, NTP, and VLAN segmentation.
- Administer Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and print services.
- Manage security solutions, including next- firewalls, anti-virus systems, web filters, and intrusion detection/prevention (IDS/IPS) tools.
- Support network monitoring and management tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, or Cisco DNA Center to proactively identify issues and optimize performance.
- Configure and troubleshoot VPNs (site-to-site and client-based) and remote-access solutions.
- Support enterprise wireless infrastructure and conduct periodic wireless surveys and signal audits.
- Maintain voice network infrastructure including IP telephony (VoIP) systems, QoS configurations, and SIP trunking.
- Ensure reliable network backup, disaster recovery, and redundancy solutions are implemented and tested.
- Conduct research on emerging network technologies, hardware, and protocols to support modernization and scalability.
- Provide second- and third-level technical support to IT staff and end users.
- Participate in or lead network upgrade and migration projects—coordinating cutovers, testing, and validation.
- Create and maintain detailed network documentation, topology maps, IP address plans, and configuration records.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Certifications
- Associate degree in Computer Networking, Information Technology, or a related field required; Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Network Engineering .
- Professional certification such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) strongly .
- Additional relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Security+, Fortinet NSE, or Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Administrator) are desirable.
Experience
- Five to eight years of progressively responsible experience in enterprise networking, systems administration, or related technical roles.
- Proven experience designing, configuring, and supporting Cisco-based network infrastructure across multiple sites.
- Demonstrated experience with VLANs, STP, OSPF/BGP routing, QoS, and network segmentation best practices.
- Operational knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, and Group Policy.
- Hands-on experience with network security, including firewall configuration, access control lists (ACLs), and VPN technologies.
- Experience implementing and supporting multi-site VoIP systems.
- Familiarity with virtualization environments (VMware, Hyper-V) and storage networking (SAN/NAS) .
- Experience with monitoring, alerting, and performance-tuning tools.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and diagnostic skills with network hardware and protocols.
- Ability to install, configure, and maintain routers, switches, and wireless controllers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to explain complex network issues in clear terms.
- Strong documentation habits and commitment to maintaining accurate network diagrams and records.
- Ability and desire to work collaboratively as a member of a cross-functional IT team.
- Must be organized, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple concurrent projects.
Attendance
Individuals in this position are expected to be available during normal business hours and may occasionally be asked to vary their schedule or work overtime to meet department or project requirements.
