Location: Manchester (Hybrid - 1 day per week in office)
Salary: £80,000 - £90,000 + Benefits

About the Role

We're looking for a Lead Platform Engineer to take ownership of the design, delivery, and optimisation of our enterprise cloud hosting platforms. This role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, ensuring systems remain secure, scalable, and resilient.
You'll drive platform transformation projects, champion automation, mentor engineers, and engage with stakeholders to deliver high-impact solutions that underpin business-critical services.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement cloud platforms across Azure & GCP

Build and optimise internal platforms to support development teams

Automate provisioning, scaling, and configuration management

Lead migration and modernisation projects from inception to delivery

Drive best practices in cloud architecture, DevOps, and automation

Collaborate with cross-functional teams on greenfield solutions

Lead incident response and root-cause analysis with preventative action

Mentor engineers and act as a trusted technical authority

Ensure cost efficiency, security, and performance across platforms

Essential Skills & Experience

5+ years' experience as a Senior/Lead Cloud or Platform Engineer

Hands-on expertise with Azure and Google Cloud Platform

Strong background with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM Templates, etc.)

Proven track record with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD)

Scripting and automation (Python, Shell, Perl, or similar)

Knowledge of data centre ops, networking, IT security, and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog)

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Agile delivery experience

Desirable Skills

Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

Oracle application/database experience

Familiarity with Unix/Solaris environments

Service mesh & API gateway knowledge (Istio, Linkerd)

Multi-cloud or hybrid infrastructure exposure

Understanding of DevSecOps practices and compliance
