TITLE: Platform Network Engineer
LOCATION: Boyers, PA
CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Active DoD TS/SCI with CI Polygraph Clearance
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-time, On-site
POSITION SUMMARY
Modern Government Solutions (MGS) is seeking a Platform Network Engineer to design, implement, and optimize advanced data center networks that support high-demand Artificial Intelligence (AI) workloads. In this role, you will configure and maintain complex Layer 2/3 architectures, including BGP, VLANs, MLAG, LAG, and Spine/Leaf topologies, while ensuring performance, stability, and scalability. The Platform Network Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional engineering and security teams, manage Trunk/Access ports, and document network standards to ensure operational excellence. This role requires hands-on expertise in troubleshooting and network performance optimization, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to stay current with emerging technologies.
RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to):
- Design, configure, and maintain complex Layer 2/3 data center networks, including BGP, VLANs, MLAG, LAG, and Spine/Leaf topologies.
- Troubleshoot and optimize network performance, stability, and scalability for high-demand AI workloads.
- Implement and manage Trunk/Access ports and related configurations to support diverse network environments.
- Collaborate with software, platform, and security teams to translate business requirements into effective network solutions.
- Document network designs, configurations, and standards to ensure knowledge sharing and operational continuity.
- Provide technical support and guidance, contributing to the professional development of team members.
- Research emerging technologies, stay current on networking best practices, and recommend improvements to enhance infrastructure.
- Travel up to 20% for on-site installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting at customer sites or data centers.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess an active Department of Defense (DoD) TS/SCI clearance with CI polygraph.
- Current IAM Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CAP, CASP) per DoD 8570 IAT requirements.
- 5+ years designing, configuring, and managing Layer 2/3 data center networks, including BGP.
- 5+ years configuring and troubleshooting VLANs, MLAG, and LAG.
- 3+ years designing and implementing Spine/Leaf network architectures.
- 3+ years configuring and managing Trunk/Access ports for diverse network environments.
- Strong background in network performance optimization and troubleshooting for distributed or high-demand systems.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional technical teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% (domestic and international) for on-site support.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNP, CCIE, JNCIP, AWS Advanced Networking, CKA).
- Experience supporting or integrating networking in AI/ML or high-performance computing environments.
- Experience with network automation/scripting (Python, Ansible, or similar).
- Familiarity with network security practices (firewalls, IDS/IPS, segmentation, RBAC).
- Experience documenting and standardizing network designs and operational runbooks.
- Knowledge of cloud networking (AWS, Azure, or GCP) in hybrid or multi-cloud architectures.
- Demonstrated ability to stay current with emerging networking technologies and best practices.
