Lead Operations Technician – Global Data Infrastructure Leader

Location: Inzai, Japan

As part of continued expansion in Japan, they are seeking a Lead Operations Technician to oversee daily data centre operations at a major facility in Inzai. This is a key leadership position, responsible for ensuring operational excellence, reliability, and safety in one of the world’s most demanding technical environments.

 

About the Role

The Lead Operations Technician will lead a team of critical operations technicians responsible for the smooth running of the facility’s mechanical and electrical systems. You will oversee daily inspections, maintenance, and operational activities, ensuring uptime, efficiency, and compliance with global standards.

 

This role demands strong technical understanding, leadership ability, and a commitment to continuous improvement within mission-critical operations.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and promote a strong culture of safety across all operations.
  • Lead and mentor a team of technicians managing the data centre’s operational zones.
  • Conduct daily inspections and monitor site systems to ensure maximum reliability.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and building control systems, including UPS, transformers, chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, and power distribution systems.
  • Lead the development and implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance schedules.
  • Support defect management and ensure effective resolution and documentation of repairs.
  • Develop, review, and maintain SOPs, EOPs, and MOPs to standardise operational procedures.
  • Oversee and coordinate maintenance and repair contractors to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Manage BMS, EPMS, and CMMS systems for monitoring and performance tracking.
  • Provide feedback on operational effectiveness and process improvement opportunities.
  • Lead asset and inventory management for critical equipment and consumables.
  • Manage incident escalation, investigation, and follow-up reporting.
  • Participate in commissioning activities, equipment handovers, and operational transitions.
  • Take on-call duties and support emergency responses outside normal working hours.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or equivalent technical qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, or related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a data centre or other mission-critical operations environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical infrastructure systems, including UPS, PDUs, chillers, CRAC/CRAH, and switching systems (STS/ATS).
  • Familiarity with local building codes and operational safety standards.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and database or monitoring software (BMS/EPMS).
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with fluency in English; Japanese language proficiency advantageous.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations.
