Mechanical Construction Manager

At Dornan we are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Construction Manager to work on a Large Commercial Project in the City of London.

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Mechanical Construction Manager will be responsible for managing and coordinating all mechanical construction activities on site, including the supervision of trades, apprentices, and labour resources.

The Mechanical Construction Manager will establish and adjust work timelines to meet the construction programme and organise and coordinate all mechanical materials, plant, and equipment required for the project.

The Mechanical Construction Manager will ensure that all work installed is completed in accordance with Dornan's standards and that all works are delivered on budget, on time, and in accordance with applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.

As a key member of the team, the Mechanical Construction Manager will act as an ambassador for the company and its values of integrity, dependability, safety, pride, and quality.

Your day to day will include:

Taking responsibility for health and safety on site and ensuring all works are carried out in accordance with the site safety plan and rules

Leading by example and setting, monitoring, and enforcing the highest standards of safety and quality

Supporting the Project Manager in managing and supervising on-site mechanical personnel and subcontractors

Managing labour resources on site to ensure efficient and productive working

Planning labour and material resources alongside the Project Manager

Producing lookaheads for forthcoming works based on current programme information

Carrying out drop-line reporting against the project programme and identifying risks and “make ready” requirements

Ensuring all employees have the relevant training and expertise to carry out their work safely and professionally

Maintaining discipline on site, reporting incidents and taking appropriate action where required

Managing and supporting apprentices in accordance with relevant training requirements

Procuring materials using the purchasing system in the most cost-effective manner

Checking materials prior to installation to ensure they are fit for purpose and comply with project specifications

Ensuring plant and equipment are maintained and kept secure, and that hired plant is off-hired promptly when no longer required

Monitoring project costs and reducing expenditure where possible without compromising quality or safety

Advising the Project Manager of any works that fall outside of the project tender or when productivity is impacted by external factors

Assisting with the successful commissioning and handover of mechanical systems to the client

Chairing formal meetings with subcontractors, project staff, directors, and clients when required

Carrying out other reasonable duties assigned by the Project Manager from time to time

What we are looking for:

Overview of knowledge required:

Detailed understanding of the Mechanical Construction Manager role within large-scale construction projects

Strong commercial awareness and cost management understanding

Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental systems and procedures

Understanding of team capability, strengths, and development areas

Qualifications & Experience:

Relevant mechanical trade background or third level qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline

Proven experience working as a Mechanical Construction Manager, Mechanical Supervisor, or similar role on large commercial or data centre projects

SMSTS or equivalent health and safety management certification

Relevant health and safety training (e.g. Safe Pass / CSCS / equivalent)

Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including HVAC, pipework, and building services installations

Experience managing mechanical subcontractors, labour resources, and project programmes

Behaviours & Attitudes Required:
