At Dornan we are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Construction Manager to work on a Large Commercial Project in the City of London.\n\nReporting to the Project Manager, the Mechanical Construction Manager will be responsible for managing and coordinating all mechanical construction activities on site, including the supervision of trades, apprentices, and labour resources.\n\nThe Mechanical Construction Manager will establish and adjust work timelines to meet the construction programme and organise and coordinate all mechanical materials, plant, and equipment required for the project.\n\nThe Mechanical Construction Manager will ensure that all work installed is completed in accordance with Dornan's standards and that all works are delivered on budget, on time, and in accordance with applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.\n\nAs a key member of the team, the Mechanical Construction Manager will act as an ambassador for the company and its values of integrity, dependability, safety, pride, and quality.\n\nYour day to day will include:\n\nTaking responsibility for health and safety on site and ensuring all works are carried out in accordance with the site safety plan and rules\n\nLeading by example and setting, monitoring, and enforcing the highest standards of safety and quality\n\nSupporting the Project Manager in managing and supervising on-site mechanical personnel and subcontractors\n\nManaging labour resources on site to ensure efficient and productive working\n\nPlanning labour and material resources alongside the Project Manager\n\nProducing lookaheads for forthcoming works based on current programme information\n\nCarrying out drop-line reporting against the project programme and identifying risks and “make ready” requirements\n\nEnsuring all employees have the relevant training and expertise to carry out their work safely and professionally\n\nMaintaining discipline on site, reporting incidents and taking appropriate action where required\n\nManaging and supporting apprentices in accordance with relevant training requirements\n\nProcuring materials using the purchasing system in the most cost-effective manner\n\nChecking materials prior to installation to ensure they are fit for purpose and comply with project specifications\n\nEnsuring plant and equipment are maintained and kept secure, and that hired plant is off-hired promptly when no longer required\n\nMonitoring project costs and reducing expenditure where possible without compromising quality or safety\n\nAdvising the Project Manager of any works that fall outside of the project tender or when productivity is impacted by external factors\n\nAssisting with the successful commissioning and handover of mechanical systems to the client\n\nChairing formal meetings with subcontractors, project staff, directors, and clients when required\n\nCarrying out other reasonable duties assigned by the Project Manager from time to time\n\nWhat we are looking for:\n\nOverview of knowledge required:\n\nDetailed understanding of the Mechanical Construction Manager role within large-scale construction projects\n\nStrong commercial awareness and cost management understanding\n\nKnowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental systems and procedures\n\nUnderstanding of team capability, strengths, and development areas\n\nQualifications & Experience:\n\nRelevant mechanical trade background or third level qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline\n\nProven experience working as a Mechanical Construction Manager, Mechanical Supervisor, or similar role on large commercial or data centre projects\n\nSMSTS or equivalent health and safety management certification\n\nRelevant health and safety training (e.g. Safe Pass / CSCS / equivalent)\n\nStrong knowledge of mechanical systems including HVAC, pipework, and building services installations\n\nExperience managing mechanical subcontractors, labour resources, and project programmes\n\nBehaviours & Attitudes Required:\n\nAbility to prioritise workload effectively in a fast-paced construction environment\n\nWillingness to take ownership, responsibility, and accountability\n\nSelf-awareness with a commitment to continuous professional development\n\nStrong leadership and communication skills to manage teams and stakeholders effectively
