Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical Site Engineer – Cooling, HVAC & Pipefitting Systems\nLocation: London, UK\nTravel: Frequent travel London, Slough, Cambridge, Manchester\nSalary: £50,000 – £70,000 per annum + Van\nSector: Data Centres | Mission Critical Infrastructure\nJob Type: 18-Month Contract to Permanent\nThe Opportunity\nWe are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical Site Engineer with a background in cooling systems, HVAC, pipe-fitting, chilled water, liquid cooling, or mechanical building services to support the delivery of major data centre projects across Portugal and Europe.\nThis is an permanent opportunity, offering the chance to work on large-scale mission-critical projects with a long-term pipeline of work across Europe. The successful candidate will support the installation, coordination, testing, and commissioning of critical mechanical infrastructure while contributing to the delivery of advanced data centre facilities designed to support cloud computing and AI technologies.\nKey Responsibilities\nSupport the delivery of mechanical packages on major data centre projects.\nCoordinate the installation of chilled water, cooling water, HVAC, liquid cooling, and mechanical piping systems.\nReview and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.\nMonitor installation quality and ensure compliance with project standards and industry regulations.\nCoordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, commissioning teams, and project stakeholders.\nAssist with procurement, material tracking, and project reporting.\nSupport testing, flushing, pressure testing, commissioning, and system handover activities.\nIdentify and resolve technical issues during installation and commissioning phases.\nMaintain project records, quality documentation, and progress reports.\nEnsure all activities are delivered in accordance with health, safety, and environmental requirements.\nSupport project delivery across multiple European locations as required.\nMechanical & Cooling Systems Experience\nCandidates should have experience with some or all of the following:\nChilled Water Systems (CHW)\nCooling Water Systems (CW)\nHVAC Installations\nMechanical Pipework Systems\nPipefitting Installation & Coordination\nPumping Systems\nPlant Room Installations\nHeat Rejection Systems\nCRAH / CRAC Units\nBuilding Services Infrastructure\nMechanical Testing & Commissioning\nLeak Detection Systems\nBMS Integration\nHighly Desirable Data Centre Cooling Experience\nExperience with modern data centre cooling technologies is highly advantageous, including:\nRDHx (Rear Door Heat Exchangers)\nCDUs (Cooling Distribution Units)\nDirect-to-Chip Liquid Cooling\nLiquid Cooling Infrastructure\nHigh-Density Rack Cooling Systems\nSecondary Cooling Loops\nAI Data Centre Cooling Environments\nCooling System Commissioning & Validation\nRequirements\n * Previous experience delivering mechanical installation, construction, commissioning, or maintenance projects.\n * Strong understanding of HVAC, chilled water, cooling water, cooling, and mechanical piping systems.\n * Experience working within data centres, mission-critical facilities, industrial, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, energy, or large commercial construction environments.\n * Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.\n * Excellent communication and coordination skills.\n * Experience working with subcontractors, suppliers, and multidisciplinary project teams.\n * Competent in Microsoft Office and project reporting tools.\n * Fluent English communication skills, both written and spoken.\n * Willingness and ability to travel extensively across Europe.\n * Full right to work within the EU or ability to obtain the necessary work authorisation.\nDesirable Qualifications & Certifications\n * CSCS Card\n * ECS Card\n * SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme)\n * SMSTS\n * First Aid at Work\n * Relevant Mechanical or Building Services Certifications\nPreferred Industry Experience\nExperience in one or more of the following sectors is :\n * Data Centres\n * Mission Critical Facilities\n * Colocation Data Centres\n * Pharmaceutical Manufacturing\n * Semiconductor Facilities\n * Industrial Manufacturing Plants\n * Energy & Utilities Infrastructure\n * High-Tech Construction Projects
