Responsibilities
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in data center design to join our data center procurement team, which supports our growing development pipeline. This group is responsible for establishing equipment standards, evaluating long-lead vendors, and driving the technical decisions that shape our OFCI procurement strategy. This individual will play a key role in the design, technical evaluation, and delivery of complex, mission-critical facilities and should have deep expertise in HVAC systems, thermal management, and large-scale mechanical infrastructure. This position is based full-time at our Hudson Yards headquarters.
Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate mechanical design for hyperscale projects from concept through construction.

Develop and review HVAC system layouts, load calculations, and equipment selections, ensuring alignment with performance, reliability, and energy-efficiency targets.

Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and best practices (e.g., ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA).

Collaborate closely with internal project managers, electrical engineers, architects, and external consultants to deliver integrated and cost-effective solutions.

Evaluate utility and infrastructure requirements, including chilled water, condenser water, and air-side systems.

Review and approve submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings during construction.

Support commissioning and integrated systems testing to validate system performance, redundancy, and efficiency.

Participate in value engineering, constructability reviews, and risk assessments.

Stay current on innovations in mechanical systems, sustainability strategies, and energy-optimization technologies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; PE license .
- 5–10 years of professional experience in mechanical design, with a focus on data centers, mission-critical facilities, or large-scale commercial infrastructure.
- Deep understanding of cooling and air distribution systems, hydronic systems, and energy-efficient design principles.
- Understand, critique, and manage the development of energy models to inform design decisions and support the preparation of project OPEX budgets.
- Familiarity with HVAC load modeling and BIM software (e.g., TRACE 3D Plus, Revit MEP).
- Strong technical writing, organization, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
